    Hi,
My gorgeous 13 year old son, has surprised me with a gift of a new slow cooker!!! I was given a great big old fashioned tefal one from my nan last year, but have been disapointed with everything it has cooked. It never seems to get hot enough, i leave a casserole on high for 8 hours and the potatoes, chopped small are still rock hard.
He has bought me a cookworks 3.5 litre, which although it is a little on the small side, should make some nice curries, chillies etc to serve with rice etc. I have never ever opened up my previous slow cooker and seen it simmering. I have some nice lentil soup that has been cooking on high for 2 hours now, and i can see it simmering. Is this what they are supposed to look like? Is this the reason why my previous one, never cooked anything properly??
    love to hear your thoughts!

    Hi Mumof4,

There was a recent thread on this which should help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.

    Hiya

Mine simmers on low (little bubbles just around the edges of the pot), and bubbles quite a bit round the edges on high, so it sounds perfect to me :)

Enjoy your new toy - I love my slow cooker :)

Thankyou for your replies, today we have made some great lentil soup, and some chocolate orange rice pudding, well impressed with both, the soup was so tasty and so great to have cooked through vegetables, I am going to throw my other slow cooker away!!!

Hi, well since I asked my slow cooker bubbling question, my new slow cooker hasnt had a break!!! OMG I wish I had bought a new one months ago. We have made the best soup, rice pudding, amzing vegetable and lentil curry, porridge, and today a vegetable cobbler. It does seem to cook things a lot quicker than the stated recipe time though, if it say 5 hours, it cooks in 3 1/2 hours. Is this what everyone elses is doing?

Hello mum of 4 , I have the same slow cooker as you and i've found that everying is done so much quicker than the instructions. I think its trial and error and like you mines not been off yet!! I've been following the instructions in the recipe book, but where it says for example leave on high 6-8 hours, i've been putting it in high for about an hour and then switching down to low for the remainder of the time and that seems to be about right.

    I can't believe I didnt have one years ago, I love it!!:D
