Should slow cooker boil like his?

I think I would definitely turn it to low now - have never seen mine jiggle the lid and spit  .
They are a bit scarey when you first start using them and of course every little thing that they do is new to you. I used mine three or four times before I would 'trust it' to do a meal by itself , but luckily I work from home (phew). Even now, I'm a bit wary of my new one because it does seem to simmer quite strongly - sometimes I wonder if I've got enough in it as it's 6.5 litres so it does hold quite a lot.
Good luck and enjoy experimenting with it.

Mine's a Rival Crockpot and that rattles and spits too. I'd say you'll be fine turning it to low. I cook most things including meat and stews with chunks of raw veg in for half an hour to an hour on high (to get it to the point where I can see it bubbling) before turning it to low and cooking for another 3-4 hours and find this works pretty well for everything.

Its only had one and a half hours of its 6-8 hours cooking time but its bubbling away quite ferociuosly, should it be doing this? I was expecting more of a simmer, do you think I should turn it down to low. I followed a recipe that came with it and it said either low for 10 hours, or pre cook the ingredients and put on low for 6-8 hours? I've not stirred it yet as someone on here told me not to until at least half the time had elapsed, it looks like it could do with a good stir though:p , i'm dying to get in there!
Any advice most welcome!!:D
DMS In your first post here, you say that the instructions state the cooking time for the cooker on the low setting, yet in post #5 you state that you are using high as per instructionsOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -

Hiya, sorry for the confusing posts, I meant to say in my first post that the recipe gave two options, first one was to use the no pre cook method , just bung everything in (heating the liquid first though) and leave on low for 10 hours
or, pre cook the veg by browning in the pan and bringing to the boil and leave on high for 6/8 hours, thais was the option I took!!:D
Thanks all, I've just eaten it and it was glorious, I did turn it down in the end, if it was a meat dish I would gave probably left it on high! xx:TComping since 3rd November 2007.2 x £50 Faith Vouchers.Tray Wrigleys Extra FusionTray Wrigleys Extra Big One2 x Big songs for little people-double cds!Cadburys vintage vanOli *mystery prize*0 -

Not as far as I'm aware, I've got a book with 400 chicken recipes and have adapted this one to use with the slow cooker.
Off the top of my head, recipe for chicken with chorizo for 2 people.
2 chicken portions, skin on or off, doesn't matter
75-100g chorizo sausage sliced
1 large onion - chopped
1-2 cloves of garlic, or tsp of lazy garlic
1 tin value plum toms
2 tbsps tom puree
paprika
olive oil
glug of sherry or brandy (optional)
couple of fresh bay leaves if you have them, if not use a tsp of dried oregano.
Heat the oil in a frying pan. Coat the chicken in paprika then fry it til browned all over. Remove chicken from the frying pan and put in the slow cooker. Fry the chopped onion quickly but not til browned, add the garlic and sliced chorizo and fry for a couple of minutes stirring well. Drain about half the liquid off the tinned toms and discard then add the toms and puree to the frying pan. Chop the toms up if not using chopped ones. Bung in the bay leaves and a glug of sherry/brandy if using and bring to the boil. Once boiling, transfer to the slow cooker and cook on high for about 45mins to an hour, then 3-4 hours on low.
Fish out the bay leaves before serving with rice or spuds and veg.

I'd love the recipe for the choc and orange pudding if you could share
I always make my rice pudding in the slow cooker, but I find mine cooks very quickly, even when I use the low setting, it's quite strange!M.A.C.A.W member number 39

Hi dedicated money saver,
I too got mine from Argos last week and its a cookworks one, so guessing its the same.
All brand new and shiny at the mo and the house is smelling delicious!!!
Mine was on high and was bubbling away so gave it a quick stir (amazed that it hadnt stuck anywhere) turned it on to low and will now try and leave it till tea time.
ooo its so hard, I guess after years of stirring everything in a saucepan it takes a bit of getting used to.
Im cooking beef with carrots peppers and onion and am going to fry some mushrooms later and put them in too.
then will microwave some new potatoes.
Good luck.[STRIKE]September 2009 - £11000 owed, its gonna be hard going[/STRIKE]!:T

Yes im amazed that it doesn't stick either, thought after cooking for so long was going to have to soak for hours but was more or less clean, amazing!!
