Morgan stanley cashback card, now barclays £20 annual fee!!

  • I just received a letter about it - my card is Leeds Building Society.

Tells me about the cashback being creditted to account automatically each month and that some fees will go down in amount. But nothing about an annual fee being/maybe charged.

What is annoying is that they changing the card number so will be getting a new card and PIN shortly. grrrr

Yes, it looks like there are several different leaflets being quoted here, and maybe different leaflets ARE being sent out depending on what type of morgan stanley card you held, but, for example, my letter from barclaycard had four different leaflets accompanying it, they were:

    1. (a glossy full colour leaflet) "Aesthectically different Essentially the same"- a summary of changes to your terms and conditions BCD90937BB1 07/08 NO MENTION OF CHARGES ON THIS LEAFLET

    2. (black and white leaflet on matt paper) "Barclaycard Cashback bonus scheme" 6620044 NO MENTION OF CHARGES ON THIS LEAFLET

    3. (black and white leaflet on matt paper) "Welcome to Barclaycard" BCD90937BA1 07/08 NO MENTION OF CHARGES ON THIS LEAFLET

    4. (black and white leaflet, matt paper, folds out to six pages) " Barclaycard conditions" BCD90937TD1A 07/08. The typeface on this leaflet is half the size of the typeface of the others, and on the second page, under KEY INFORMATION it says "we will charge you an annual fee of £20 payable on account opening and on each anniversary of your account opening.

I do hope that some of us will not be charged, but please check all the leaflets sent to you very, very carefully

    xx

Thanks for your detailed info Gentlepurr. I have the Platinum MS, and just checked all the leaflets you mentioned. I have the same leaflets, except for the last one. Mine has exactly the same numbers but a B instead of an A (so BCD90937TD1B 07/08), and doesn't mention the 20 pound charge.

So indeed it seems that Platinum customers get slightly different T&Cs and are not charged the 20 pound.

Another problem is that the benefits are less attractive. Although you you can now get the 1% cashback for a total of £2400 pa instead of £2000, it will only apply to purchases to maximum of £200per month. Not much use for my business purposes!

I reckon it's time to close the account and to reduce the number of credit cards.

    Hi All,

just got my new card through and all the guff to go with it. I can't find any mention of a charge but i did wonder if i would still receive the same rate - i.e when i joined they offered 0% on balance transfers until 2010? Anyone else on this deal and will it still apply?

Just called them, we had a morgan stanley plat cashback that became the Goldfish card and is not the Barclaycard Cashback card.

    I spoke to James

They confirmed there is NO annual charge for this card.

Hope that helps you all out

Has anyone actually received a new PIN to go with the Barclaycard which is intended to replace the existing Morgan Stanley/Goldfish card?

I haven't and the card is supposed to go 'live' on 22/9 i.e Monday.

I phoned the so-called helpline on 0844 891 4999 and got a very wishy-washy response, to the effect that PINs had been 'delayed'.

As it happens I have other options, but as far as they are aware this is my only card. They seemed remarkably unconcerned, and bleated an apology for any inconvenience. Sounds like a bit of a botch job to me.

I also far preferred the Morgan Stanley online service to that of Barclaycard.

I've not received my PIN yet either.

I've got a PIN but no card :(. Perhaps we should meet and arrange a swap?
  • I got my PIN about a week and a half ago. The card only arrived yesterday. I did phone them about the whereabouts of my card before it arrived yesterday, and they said dispatch of cards had to be staggered.

Then you'd have a card but no PIN, and I'd have a PIN but no card.

We'd need to share not swap. :p
