I suppose it was the 1.8 engine
My daughter drives a I .0 litre fiesta
But the joys of being older, looking at a 3.0 Mondeo ( cheap as chips)0 -
I did Passplus soon after passing the test, then a couple of years later did the IAM's Skill for Life which I found far more useful.
With the IAM in my area you pay £85 (£20 discount if you're under 26), which covers one year's membership & as many observed drives as you need to prepare you for the advanced test.0 -
It may be alot of money but as been mentioned you do get to drive on motorways which you couldnt have done in your lessons or your driving test, i was given the chance to drive on roads which i hadnt driven on before eg country roads, roads with sharp bends in them, for me the pass plus just gave me a bit more extra confidence to drive by myself, i think my pass plus was only 1.5 to 2 hours long, theres no test invloved as such and also you cant really fail it,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

The other positive with Pass Plus is as it's a fixed number of hours you can arrange to drive for longer than the standard hour. My dad teaches it and sometimes does a 2 hour session and if the driver is happy will do an extra hour. This is very good at demonstrating to a new driver fatigue when driving.
The Pass Plus website gives link to insurance companies which recognise it. I think any extra drver training can only be a good thing and savings on insurance should only be one factor.
Even if you save nothing, if you go onto the motorway for the first time alone and have an accident the extra £160 could be small beer.
Remember from next week prison is an option for causing death by careless driving and careless driving is much easier to prove than dangerous driving.0 -
Check your local council if they run PassPlusExtra Scheme, in which, they offer you £60 towards the cost of it subject to you attending 2 hours lecture in a local place. After you have done the PassPlus course (minimum of six lessons) send the county council a copy of your PassPlus certificate and they will send a £60 cheque back to you!!
Check here if your county council is participating in PassPlusExra Scheme
