Pass Plus - is it worth it?

My sister has just passed her driving test, she is now looking into doing the Pass plus, her driving instructor has said it is £160 which i think is reasonable (its a 6hr session).

I was just wondering which insurance companies take this into account as when i have been looking on the internet in the past for my own insurance, not many places ask you if you have it.

So is it worth doing it if noone takes it into account for discounts to your insurance. I know its good experience on the motorway but anyone can take you on the motorway, i was just wondering if its a waste of her money.

Thanks

Only some companies offer a discount because of it (check the passplus leaflet) but I think you are right that it is worth it from a personal safety point of view.

  • i looked into this when i passed, the cost of the course was more than the saving.
  • defineately worth doing.

my daughter saved £250 off her £800 quote 4 years ago with Zurich

my son saved £800 off his £3200 quote 2 years ago with his RAC quote

found it difficult to get accurate quotes on line, so phoned companies and got a better response

its the equivalent of 1 yrs NCD

also its mind easing, as the instructor let them overtake on motorways and generally gave them a free hand to drive as they would on their own!

Cheers for the advice, i'll be helping her look for insurance when she gets round to it, so i'll bear in mind that we need to ring people rather than look on the internet.

It is worth it if only for the skills you will learn... as a new driver you will have never driven on a motorway.. and very unlikely to have driven at night.. after passing the pass plus and after you have been driving for a year i would enrol on some Imas driver training.. driving skills are for life and it is worth grabbing as much training as you can..

I did my pass plus a few years ago after I passed my test, and I would recommend it. It gave me a good discount off my insurance, but it also gave me the experience of motorway driving, night driving, country driving etc.

Well worth it in my opinion!

  • does she not have someone with experiance that can take her out, all i needed was an hours extra driving with my dad on the motorway and it was all good
