  • I think you can get tom-tom to work on that model, but i think you need a GPS transmitter/receiver (one of the two), to know where you are.

Not sure how much they cost.

    Do a google for them.

For GPS you will need to purchase a Bluetooth GPS receiver, these are readily available from many people on Ebay, all you need to do is search bluetooth GPS. Costs vary greatly, mine cost £64.00 about six months back...prices have dropped a lot since then though.

I assume you are looking to use the phone as a route planner?

Various software is availabel, Tomtom mobile is the main one people go for, again look on ebay for sellers, but watch out for peeps selling pirated versions. You will also need a larger multi media card (memory card with phone is only 64mb) to hold the map software, depending on where you purchase, 256mb cards range from £15-£30. Remember to get a RS-DV MMC (reduced size, duel voltage) as a normal RS is not duel voltage and won't work in the 6630.

As a guide on cost I've placed a link to a seller on ebay below. This is just one I quickly searched which appears to be selling a new kit which includes everything you'd need. personally I'd source different sellers for the different items where you'd be moe likely to get the full kit cheaper

    Forgot to add...

the GPS usage is free, no subscription whatso ever. If you use tomtom I think they have options to download directly to the phone traffic updates, etc. I don't know if this costs, but obviously you'd need to call to download.

Cool, so for GPS all I need is...

    0) Mobile phone - EG: NOKIA 6630
    1) Software - EG: Tom Tom - Cost £10 - £45
    2) Bluetooth GPS receiver - Cost : £45 - £65
    3) Multimedia Card (min 256mb) - Cost: £15 - £30

So, I should hopefully be able to get GPS for £65 - £140.

Has anyone actually done this - does it work -is it good - is it LEGAL ? And how about updates and subscriptions...

Oh...by the way, I've been testing tomtom on my 6630 today.....I was expecting it to be quite difficult to use as I'm used to using a PDA with a touch screen, but I was quite amazed how easy it was to navigate the menus and use :)

The only down side is once your used to a PDA sized screen the screen on the 6630 is a tad small.
