  • We have just have had a B & Q kitchen delivered! The numpties at the local store were dreadful and will be receiving a letter asking for compensation soon.

Even though, we agreed a time for delivery (so we could be there!), the kitchen manager thought it fun to change the delivery date without telling us! They then arranged for it to be delivered when we weren't there! Having 'discovered' the problem (we went in to buy an under mounted sink - 7 wks delivery time, bought online elsewhere and was delivered the next day!) we seemed unable to do anything to rectify it!

B & Q ordering system was utterly hopeless! The telephone number we gave them originally couldn't be changed (we moved out so the builders could get on), meaning that the delivery confirmation messages were going to a phone we were not at! Nobody was ever able to change this!

Even though we rang 5 days in advance, it was only at 7.30pm on the Friday night of delivery( the original date) that a solution was found. Repeated assurances to ring us back all turned out to be a complete pack of lies. The customer service we experienced was dreadful. Cowboys would be a compliment to some of them (the delivery people were very nice!)

Today, I received a call from our builder saying there might be a problem with the order! He's on his way their to speak to them now..... Apparently, even though the order (i have it in front of me!) says we should have 60cm integrated cooker hood, it appears we have a 80cm one!

We are hoping to move back before Xmas, but it B&Q have their way, I suspect it will be some time longer!

I can only talk for our experience, but I would not buy from B&Q again...............

I have fitted myself 2 b&q kitchens in 3 years, (dif. houses) I do find them good value for money, and the in -store staff helpful, although I must admit, the organisation that goes on behind the delivery's does need a sort out.

  • Find a independant kitchen copany/fitter who will be able to supply you a far superior kitchen and fit it for probably the same price youll be paying for a BnQ kitchen.
  • We cancelled our appointment with B&Q after comparing carcass qualities.

We used a local independant company in the end for the kitchen (felt good to be supporting the little people in these troubled times), with a kitchen fitter recommended by friends.
Otherwise we'd have gone on checkatrade's website for a kitchen fitter.
  • i have fitted a few b&q kitchens and ikea kitchens and there ok but my favourite is howdens kitchens as most of the time there units are pre built for you.i would stay clear off the b&q fitters as they charge a fortune.

P.S. am in the paisley area

  • Thanks every one for your replies, so here's what happened:

Original post back in August, and not many replies so I went ahead with B&Q.

Install booked for 1st Dec, for 4days (1 extra day to be safe)

Day 1: Fitters come, rip out old kitchen. Done byt midday and no new kitchen delivered yet. Fitters announce they are off home/another job as nothing they can do. Kitchen arrives about 2pm. I try to call fitters and get back, but to no avail.

Day two: Start building kitchen, damaged doors worktop etc discovered, and I am advised they will order. New worktop coming next day from local supplier (better quality I am told) Fitters did do this off their own back - no need for me to moan about damaged items.

Day three: Fitter announce parts missing they will do what they can. Oh and they can't do anything really until W/top arrives - at midday. Booked back in for the 15th Dec, they should have other parts and by then the plasterer and elec will have been.

Electrician comes, nice guy and good job

Plasterer comes - one week late - as he fell the week before and had to go to hospital - yeah sure whatever..... Smooth finish but plaster on cabinets and not cleaned up properly.

Day four of actual work: I can't really rember what they done, but they didn't have any new doors or new bits. Actually they fitted washing machine and F/F. Finished early I think.

Day five: they have a few parts, will build them up - I am told they will be finished today - except they don't have all the parts, and they inform me they will need to come back for a few hours the next day.

Day 6 (4hours work): I am at work. I would summarise from this that they are bl***y slow! They installed my dishwasher, changed a waste pipe in the sink (wrong one originally supplied).

    Other points-

Have left rubbish outside my front door on occasions. When work tops needed replaced (I kinda expected this from other peoples reviews) the old worktops were left lying about - one on my staircase and one on my driveway for over a week untill I moaned. Both were 3.6 mtrs long. My end bedroom looks like B&Q warehouse. Blah blah............... I don't want to bore you anymore!

Safe to say complaint letter will be getting sent soon.

    Lesson learned!!
