Hotels near NEC

Hello
Going to the MPH car show on 16th November and need a hotel for 2 nights 15/16
I was looking to get as close to the NEC as possible, but lots either show no availability or are quite expensive.
So I have looked a bit further afield solihull, coventry etc but was just wondering how easy it is to get to the NEC from there, the hotel sites tell me how far, but apparently the road to the NEC is horrendous??? (I have never been!) and I don't want to make my blokes bday weekend a major stress
Thanks for any help

There are lots of hotels and B&Bs near Coventry Station, which is actually out of the city centre. If you were within walking distance of the station you can get a train to Birmingham International, which is where the NEC is.
The train journey takes about the same time from Coventry as from B'ham New St, less than 15 mins, so staying around Coventry Station makes sense.
Taking a car to the NEC for a big event is a nightmare!0 -
I've just checked your dates on laterooms and you're in luck, there is still lots of availability. Trust me, that won't be the same closer to the time.
The two closest, reasonably priced hotels are...

Three of my clients favourites in the area are...

http://www.ardenhotel.co.uk/ - has full leisure facilities for a very reasonable rate.
http://www.lacaverna.uk.com/ - is a little bit further away but I've had good reports about the food here.0 -
How about this Bed & Breakfast? Very close to Coventry railway station and has good reviews on trip-advisor. The Coventry city centre Ibis is also handy for the train station, approx 10 minutes walk. As MrSmartPrice says, trains to the NEC are frequent and it's only a short journey.
There's the added advantages of not having to pay for car parking and not having to fight your way out of the car parks at the end of your visit!some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -
I stayed here recently http://www.churchfarmacc.com/
VERY close to NEC and the owner was more than happy to drive me to the rail station. Nothing salubrious but extremely good value and very nice people.0 -

Parking BTW is around £8 /day0 -
Any central Birmingham or Coventry hotel would be good, and use the train to Birmingham International - probably your guiding factor on which hotel to use will be availability (and cost) of car parking at the hotel.0

I am sure I just replied to this but it disappeared!
Anyway, thanks everyone, lots to think about and I will look properly next time the kids aren't distracting me, and my bloke isn't sat next to me (kind of spoils the surprise...)
Looks like a train is the most popular idea. I don't live near a big city, so not used to heavy traffic at all, I do know traffic jams are seriously boring, and I think a train may be the best bet0 -
Just noticed the thread about the £49 dinner, bed and breakfast offer at Holiday Inn.
There is one at Coventry M6 J2 that I could get for those dates, so it would cost me £98 for the 2 nights, for 2 breakfasts and one dinner, which I think is fab.
The other ones I have looked at are about £50 a night just for b&b and some don't include breakfast at all (I am not too bothered but OH loves a fry up!)
But due to the Holiday Inns location it's not near to Coventry station so we would need to drive to the NEC (20 mins apparently) so now I just now need to weigh up whether the cheaper price is worth the potential travel stress......:rolleyes:0 -

Good Luck.0 -
the travelodge at fort dunlop is a good cheap option, it's easy to find, easy to get to and from the NEC, I stayed there for 5 days at the end of July as I was working at the NEC, plenty of parking and the rooms are very good for a travelodge, there are places nearby to get a meal or m&s where you can snack food etc, also they do food at the travelodge, breakfast was fair and cheap0
