Moved House..DACS..What to do?

Just moved into my new house.. and noticed there was a BT box on an outside wall saying DACS. There is also a phone point in the living room with two sockets (has two different phone numbers written on each socket)

As i havent joined BT yet.. whats the best course of action for me to get the dacs removed? I want to go with o2 home broadband and BT said i need to contact o2 about the DACS .. spoke to o2..and they said they wont be removing it.

Should i sign up with BT and hope that o2 get BT to remove the DACS during installation ?

thanks..

An order for broadband needs to be raised in order to get the DACS removed from the line.

I'd double check first. A DACS unit is something which just groups multiple lines together. If you sign up to BT for the telephony then they have no obligation to remove it unless theres an order for broadband (some DACS removal orders i can recall used to go into months as opposed to weeks).

Just watch the contract lengths on any service you take out as well.

This is true. Be prepared to wait months for your broadband to come live, if there's DACS box removal required.. :(

You need to order BB from an ISP for DACS to be removed from the tel line. this is not BT job as all telephony network and wires are owned by Open Reach, they are like the "network rail" of the telecommunication industry. when you order BB from an ISP they will advise openreach to remove the DACS on the line. this obviously will take a couple of weeks as noted by normanmark
