A quick final post to say 'thanks all' would not come amiss.
This has happened many times. You'd think they'd come back out of curiosity to read their replies. They can't have considered it to be much of a problem not to have come back.0 -
Yes that's annoying too. You try and help people and get nothing back or any feedback. I think 1/5th of second to click thanks button is too much or at least coming back and acknowledging the replyseven-day-weekend wrote: »I don't mind not being thanked on the thanks button. Yes, I agree with that. I have noticed, however, a flip-side to this. There seem to be certain cliques in some of the forums who follow each other around thanking each other for the most banal of posts. I find this equally annoying.
Dave.
The reason for this might also be this. Sometimes an on going thread gets so long, that the only way to keep up with it or find out where you are up to, is to press the Thanks button. It disappears, therefore you know you have read that post.
It's not all to do with being in a 'mutual thanks club'0 -

Well, that's just blatant misuse of the thanks button, and not in keeping with the spirit of this website at all.

So how else would you keep up with a thread that gets posted on all the time and over a week gets to some 50 odd pages long?
Perhaps I've got a better than average memory that I just take for granted, but I have no problem keeping a mental track of where I'd got to in numerous long threads.
It is a shame though that the website doesn't have a 'bookmark' button or even a 'read' button so that you could log which post you last read in each thread. If they can implement a 'thanks' button, I can't see that this would be a very difficult enhancement.
