No thanks

I've noticed on many threads where people have taken the time and trouble to reply with advice, the OP hasn't bothered pressing the Thanks button. It's a common courtesy, so why not thank them.

If I forget to thank anyone who gives me advice, I apologise: it's probably my early stage Alzheimers acting up again... :D

Most fora don't have a thanks facility, so I think that new posters forget to click it because they aren't used to it.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

    It's optional.

Maybe some people don't even know the function is there.

Maybe posters are too busy fretting with their problem that they forget.

Personally, I think it is rude to expect thanks (and even ruder to ask!), after all, we have the choice to help or not and it would be sad to think that users only give advice to others to gain 'thank's from it.

I don't expect thanks, and don't give help so I'll get thanked. As I said, it's just manners to do so.

I get disappointed too by some people. You spend some time looking for solutions to there problem and they either ignore you and occasionally thank others. Even if the it didnt help and the poster did try and help it deserves some thanks. It isn't about post thanks counts, just manners

If I asked for help I would thank everyone who posted unless the post was just done right unhelpful/abusive

Yes, I agree with that. I have noticed, however, a flip-side to this. There seem to be certain cliques in some of the forums who follow each other around thanking each other for the most banal of posts. I find this equally annoying.

  • I don't mind not being thanked on the thanks button. What does rile me slightly is to have spent ages researching an answer, with links etc, and then the OP never comes back on the thread again.

A quick final post to say 'thanks all' would not come amiss.

    Dave.

Maybe that accounts for the very high number of thanks some people have.
