My Credit Card chip has been cloned,Help!!

No cloned chip and pin cards eh. The BBC and the police must be liars then
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7557956.stm
Where in this article do either the BBC or the police say a chip has been cloned? The article does however contain one completely unsubstantiated assertion:
"Security expert, Andrew Goodwill, from the Third Man group, said this was the first evidence of a breach of the chip-and-pin system, with the encryption of the chip having been broken."
Are we to just take his word for it?
His quote in the Register's coverage of this story is more equivocal:
"The PIN access devices are being re-engineered. It seems like crooks have broken the encryption on the chip but this is unclear,"
Too right it's unclear. Quite how he can be so certain in his quote to the BBC is puzzling.I have seen a few techie posts on other websites stating the chip can and has been cloned, so definately pursue this.
Or should we take your word for it? Care to post the links? The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.0 -
hi bert@ernie
Being slandered is not nice.
We have asked them to provide evidence that could be used in court, and tell us what steps they have taken to investigate this , but they chose to ignore our request and just say that they have an experienced team of investigators. we feel that we are banging our heads against a brick wall.
Have you asked for the ATM locations and written to those banks/branches to save their security camera recordings on those days and times as evidence. Most ATMs(I think all) have security cameras monitoring them and the recording can be used to identify the person who did the withdrawals.
Though most banks would not bother to waste their money(profits) on safegaurding the consumer!!. They would rather harass the consumer and try to get the money. I had a problem with Vanquis about ID fraud and they did not even bother as finally I am the loser with a address fraud and id fraud mark against my credit file. Though they say it will not hamper my credit rating, I have been rejected for mobile phone after this appeared on my credit file.:beer::beer:0 -

Well I didn't post the links as these are forum posts and as such unsubstantiated, I can post the name of the forum if you like. It will be well known to many on here and was originally set up for bank charges. All I was saying is that chip and pin isn't the cure all the banks said it would be. It would appear to give the banks more protection and customers alot less, but personnelly (thank god) I have had no direct experience of chip and pin losses.
From what I have read on a number of sites it would appear that there are 2 types of "chip" cards. One DDA is very secure and used widely across europe. The other (cheaper version) SDA(?) is alot less secure and appears to have been chipped on a number of occasions.
I would imagine in this case the bank are assuming these transactions have been fully chip checked, but the reality is as long as the black strips are still on the cards and some transactions can be done with this information only it leaves a gap which can be exploited.
The OP needs more info from the bank and if they refuse it she should go to the ombusman.
BTW I am not an expert on chip and pin, just posted a few links and my opinon, no need to get agressive lol. I assume the OP is telling the truth, but as you point out anything on a forum could be made up/ unsubstantited.
