Thank you everyone else who has contributed with advice. It was helpful for me because I did try to dry out the phone and it may have worked had my daughter not rushed to turn her phone on yesterday. Never mind. Thanks everyone!

There's no reason why you shouldn't keep trying the drying out route. As has already been mentioned, dismantle it into as many pieces as is reasonably practical, put it in your airing cupboard (or somewhere equally warm and dry) and forget about it until at least Friday. And suggest to your daughter that she keeps her mitts to herself!

It may work, it may not, but if it's worth a shot before shelling out for a new phone, which would be the only other option as water damage would almost certainly have invalidated any warranty.

A smarter person would have checked the pockets before washing the garment, they would have also removed the battery out of temptations way! Either way and expensive mistake.

    :rotfl:

We're only human Im afraid and these things happen. As the garment was mine I didn't check the pockets because I never put things like mobile phones in my pockets. My daughter was wearing it and had put the phone in the pocket unbeknown to me.

My husband was home yesterday and I thought he would have stopped her turning the phone on, but he gave in and let her do it!

Hey ho! Thats the way it goes. Us mere mortals have to suffer the consequences.

Thanks, Nick. This is what we're going to do. My husband works in a warm environment and is taking it to work to make sure it completely dries out. This way my daughter can't get her hands on it!:D

Luckily I know how to ignore trolls.

    :p

He doesn't seem like a troll to me, do you just call people trolls that point out your not a nice person?

OP, I have washed many a thing in washing machine I shouldnt, i really wouldn't worry about people calling you stupid or anything.

Hope you get the phone sorted.

Thanks Jodie. Im not worried about people like that calling me stupid. If you look at previous posts in other threads by espresso you can see similar comments made to other people. All unwarranted too. We can all make mistakes and all I wanted is a bit of advice as to what to do next. I personally have never even accidentally splashed my own mobile, never mind washed it, dropped it in a puddle or in the toilet (as my other daughter did once! ) Perhaps my daughters will learn a lesson now? (Though I doubt it! )

I hope a bit more drying out does work. We can but try.:o
