Body kits and Insurance?

I wrote off my beautiful Honda CRX yesterday :( He's been my pride and joy for the last 342 days, and I'll miss him dearly - first ever accident and such a minor one too :o .

Anyway, to cheer myself up I've started looking online for another one. There's a spanking example currently on eBay in my price range, same year and mileage but a UK model (mine was Japanese), and lots of tasty extras like heated seats etc. to help me get over my loss.

Based on the slightly different model (including of course my recent claim), the insurance quotes are coming up roughly £200 cheaper than my import :j, but obviously there could be some detail I've missed.

Is there anything in the below description that might make my premium bump up, or that I otherwise need to declare to a prospective insurer? Particularly unsure about the veilside kit..?
1995 Honda Crx Del Sol 1.6 Vtec.

113,000 miles 2 door convertible, black, petrol, manual, absolutely immaculate inside and out,

- full stainless exhaust lifetime guarantee,
- 18inch alloys (£950 alone!),
- full veilside kit, absolutely zero rust, i had to travel country to find a perfect example before i bought it.

in the 3 years i have owned it not ONE fault or problem with the car, previous owner was a mechanic. Just had it MOT'd, which it flew through with no problems.

- HEATED s2000 leather seats (one of a kind)!!
- full suspension setup including dampers and springs,
- sparco steering wheel,
- maplights in the door handles which are a rare extra,
- silver dash kit, civic type r gear knob, black interior instead of the standard grey everything on the outside is colour coded including mirrors door handles etc, everything is electric.

mirrors, all three windows. Manual convertible hardtop which stores in the boot. Cd Player.

Far too much to list all, has to be seen. The car is absolutely gleaming and has been cherished for the 3 years of ownership. Vision 1610 alarm system with remote centrol locking. First to see will buy. UK car, NOT an import, lower insurance all undersealed etc.

alloys aren't standard alloys so you'll need to declare them, plus the body kit, plus the exhaust

sounds like the suspension's been messed with too

sounds like a great car though!

Is it possible to declare these things online though? I guess I have to actually talk to these insurers

There seem to be very few "standard" versions around these days, they've all been pimped! Mine was so easy...

Whaddaya reckon, is it likely to add much to the premium?

Admiral's systems let you add mods online, but it will probably refer.

you should probably ask the seller if anything has been tweaked under the bonnet too ;)

    Here it is on ebay

    It's probably been driven like a tw@

The guy wants £3500, for a 13 year old car with 113,000miles on it. That doesn't sound that great to me.

Well, I'm getting £2500 for my 13-yr-old car with 97,000 miles on it and it doesn't have any of those extras

Find me a better example if you can! I'm only interested in Honda CRX's.

    uh oh

mentions 'tuning' in the description too. you need to find out what's been done to it, badger!

i'd want to know what the service history is too.

mileage is relatively low, but i'd want to test drive before bidding anywhere near £3500.

You have to declare whatever differs from or adds to the original standard no-frills spec of the car - so, you have to declare pretty much everything listed in your first post! I'd be surprised if you can find quotes online for such a heavily modified car.

You should declaire everything ... however... I love my cars and have been through this myself! My first car - a corsa - lovely little 1.2 'done up' to the max - truely looked great! I told them about every mod, which was handy, or so I thought, as I had an accident and had to claim, however I then learnt that the kit I had on the car was standard Vauxhall kit so I could have got away with it as I had no tuning mods - except and air filter.

Now with my second car: I bought a BMW and I modified it, BUT i modified it with orginal BMW stuff so I could play the 'I bought the car like this - i didnt know any different' game. Thats what I did, never claimed on it so that was all fine.

My brother who has insurance with Quinn: he told them that he had lowered the car and put 18's on it and they said thats fine, added it on the policy and it didnt cost a penny more, they are only interested if its engine mods. So i recommend getting a quote with Quinn Direct to be on the safe side
