I don't think I am. You called British Gas's standard tariffs the dearest in the UK (1cs called them the most expensive). I proved this was not the case. I admit that click is cheaper, but it does vary and is extremely likely to rise over the next 3 years (yes it may go down too). What I was saying is that you were bandying about words like dearest and most expensive but this wasn't true. It was even less true if you were talking about Fix 2009.
When did I miss the point?

OK, you lost me. Click 5 comes out top (cheapest?), but the standard tariff from your regional supplier is cheaper?

My regional supplier's standard tariff (Swalec) is cheaper than BG's Click5 and any other of their tariffs for me. And hundreds of thousands of others too.

Missing the point? Because you don't know my circumstances of energy use or my region, until now, or anything else. Or probably most other member's circumstances.

Click5 is only, allegedly, the cheapest online tariff. That doesn't make it the best deal for everybody per se.

And yes, as an overall average of all UK regions, BG's standard tariff is the most expensive in the UK.

Try this as well-go to one of these comparison sites and enter your details and then Click5 may come out top.

Then do it again but this time state your tariff is actually Click5.

Guess what?:D Some other tariff usually comes out as top!!

Why? Because the comparison sites are also a business and they want you to switch.

    Good eh?

There are as many different answers as there are customers. What is right for one person will not be right for the next.
As such energy suppliers use average consumption values for comparisons - average values supplied by Energywatch/Ofgem. This is why we have comparison sites which allow you to enter your own details.

If you were using kWh on a comparison site you will get the same answer no matter who you say your current supplier & tariff are as they are no longer required to produce values for all the other companies.

You said that Click 5 came out cheaper on a comparison site but your local supplier was cheaper. As that doesn't make sense, I was lost.
If you meant Click 5 was cheaper for the average customer but not for you personally it makes sense, and I agree.

I've not checked average prices across all the regions and worked out the average of them, so I'm happy to accept your calculations in the meantime, but the single comparison I made, based on another posters region and average consumption suggested it wasn't the most expensive. I'm probably geeky enough to go and play with a spreadsheet, but not just now.

I'm on click energy 5, and know my annual consumption as I've been providing regular meter readings and can look back through my account history. So I thought I'd check this out.

Uswitch - showed Click 5 dual fuel monthly DD (i.e. what I'm on) as cheapest
moneysupermarket - didn't include my current tariff in the results, just showed others (with Scottish Power as 26p pa cheaper and the rest more expensive)
energylinx - showed current deal as best and others as more expensive
energyhelpline - showed current deal as best

... so I'm not quite sure how you got your results...

Are my circumstances the exact same as yours?

    Just a thought.

Maybe the circumstances aren't the same, but your point was that if you don't put that you're on click 5 it comes up as cheapest, but if you do then something else comes up. My point is that it's pretty consistent, and the sites do indicate that I'm currently on the most appropriate tariff.

Presumably, if you put in what you actually use, for any one person these sites should come up with a consistent answer as they have access to the same data?

I agree. If you put in actual usage you will get the same answer on all sites. If you put in a monthly/yearly spend you will get any old answer.
