Is my passport valid to US
Comments
-
Is that a particular requirement for the US then? I thought it would be fine to travel in the ladies maiden name as long as the name on the passport matched the tickets.
as long as the name on the ticket is the same as the passport there is nothing to worry about, we got married in the US and had no issues even though when my wife came back here we had a US wedding licence and the tickets and passport were in her maiden name.0 -
isotonic_uk you dont mention your sex but if you are getting married the womens passport is the important one as it will need to be in her married name, ditto tickets etc.
This is why important things like passports and document advice should be directed to the relevent place and not internet forums as you get information like this.
It does not matter the important factor is that ticket and passport match. The lady could still use her passport till expiration years later to travel providing the ticket name matched.0 -

This is quite correct. Our passports were due to expire in 2007 but we renewed about 8 months early to avoid the latest price hike. (Very MSE!;) ) They expire 10 years after the expiry date on the old ones, not from the date of issue.
I don't think this 6-month thing has any validity in law at all. It effectively makes your passport a 9.5 year one! It just seems to be an arbitrary rule imposed by travel companies. Has it ever been challenged, I wonder.
Just as an aside, your passport does not need to still be current for your return. You will still get into the country on an expired passport as they cannot stop you entering if you are a UK citizen. Lots of UK citizens living in Spain come back to the UK to get new passports, and enter on expired ones.0 -

They won't let you into the US if your passport is not valid for "at least 90 days from the date on which the holder enters the United States".0 -

they do, I used to work for united airlines and we let people go and didnt have them returned...I think so long as your return is before the expiration that tends to be fine.0 -
Yes, you're quite right.
For some reason I had got it into my head that everyone stayed for three months like me.
(89 days last time, 88 the next)0 -
I just renewed my expired passport. Posted it the day they went on strike and had it returned 13 days later. It may have cost £70+ , however I cant argue with the service. Why not renew yours, it needs doing soon and think of the piece of mind you will have when you arrive for your honeymoon in the U.S.0

Thanks for everyones comments on here, I decided to go peterborough office in the end and get a renewal passport, cost me extra but now I have the peace of mind that now there shouldn't be any issues regarding my passport thanks again to all.0

When I went on honeymoon I didnt change the name on my passport till I got back. Too much hassle. Some people dont change their name when they get married anyway.0

Hi I thought I would let everyone know that I went and came back from the US without any issues, I did renew my passport but was suprised as to how it wasn't inspected in detail in the US. I thought security was tight there!
My advice is to avoid any heart ache, its worth getting done, just dont leave it last minute as it costs more to renew.0
