£75 for a hen party??

I have been invited to a hen party where a company come out to a house and 3 beauty treatments for a cost of 75 pounds. This price doesn't seem to include dinner... it does probably include the price of the bride's session, but I'm still a little unsure about going because of the cost.

Is this being stingy and should I just go... or is it crazy money to pay for a day!!

seems quite steep - go if you think you'd enjoy it, you have the money and are close to the bride to be.
I annoyed a friend by not going to her hen party but theres no way I'd spend £500 on a wet weekend in scotland that I wouldnt enjoy and be resentful of , thinking of the other ways I could spend the money. If you wouldn't feel this way go - if you would, don't. Also, think of the company - do you get on wih her other friends??

depends on what the beauty treatments are and how long they last - it may be a bargain but it may be a ripoff! as it goes, £75 isn't as bad as some that i've heard of (why does everyone need to go away for a weekend these days?!)

if it's at someone's house, does that mean you can work out food between you and buy in the drinks from the supermarket? at least that should keep the cost down a bit....

Why the heck are so many hen/stag parties so expensive to go to these days?

Everyone used to just go out and get drunk - still worked out cheaper.

OP - if you can afford to throw away £75, or the treatments are something you would get anyway, then go for it.

If you think it's a waste of time, then don't feel bad about saying you can't go.

  • Personally I would not pay £75 for any amount of treatments because it's really not my thing!

If it's a close friends hen do then I would hope that they would try to organise something that everyone will enjoy (or at least not resent) and within budget. If they are close then explain the situation and if they're not don't feel guilty about not going!

I'm off to a stag do (liberal friends with men and women going!) where we have rented out a house in the country for a weekend. It's not costing much (less than your treatments!) for three nights away so I'm treating it as a mini holiday and it's only close friends so a good chance to catch up. Plus, we will be cooking for ourselves and buying a few bottles to drink there so costs are kept to a minimum.

I do think the expectations around hen/stag dos are getting a bit much!

seems everything is getting more expensive these days isn't it???

Personally it would depend on how close I was to this friend - £75 is alot of money - and I could spend it on other things....

If you go though..enjoy yourself and if you don't..don't feel bad about it

I agree it depends how close you are to the 'hen'.

Good friends should make sure everyone can afford, and is ok with, arrangements like this before they make them. It makes no sense to blunder on ahead and not check with people imo, not least because you could end up with no guests!

Personally, I'd bulk at £75 but then I'm not into beauty treatments, and I'd also want to know what it covers!

I would explain to said friend that you simply cannot afford £75 but you would be happy to come along and not participate in the treatments after all they won't be doing them all at once so there will be people to sit and chat to.
Maybe make the excuse that you have really sensitive skin and beauty teatments affect your skin (they do mine!)
You could also still chip in for the brides treatments then you don't feel mean.

Hi there, I am a beauty therapist - can I just ask what treatments they would be?

If it was close to a special occassion I might go for the treatments, and if it was cheaper than I would get it at my local salon, however if it worked out more expensive for something I wouldn't choose myself I'm afraid I would only go if I was really close to the hen. £75 seems a lot upfront, but if you were going out for a meal and drinks, or just drinking for the night, you wouldn't come away with much change from £75 anyway. The hen quite likely thinks shes being reasonable by not inviting everyone on a weekend away as this is almost the norm now, but would certainly be more!
