AOL Broadband, credit checking!!!!!!

Many years ago i was with AOL and all you did was either ring them up or pick a CD up in a shop, register with a debit card and you were on!!!!
I've looked on their website and it T&C's I've actually read about ''being credit scored and credit ref agencies'' Can't believe that? Surely Carphone Warehouse are getting a bit big for its boots!

Anyway, as anyone signed up as a new customer and had to credit checked?
I mean you pay in advance as well, it used to be so simple.

Thanks everyone

This is the normal thing now for most if not all service providers, credit checks ahead of the order since you are signing a contract with them and they like to know they will still be able to get money out of you for the duration of that contract.
  • Don't forget about the lovely laptops they are giving away, they dont want un credit worthy people getting them and not paying!

Yes, but I don't want a laptop just a normal package! It's really changed since it went over to Carphone Warehouse. My pal has just gone with Pipex and no credit checks. Oh yes, just read they also do 1 month contracts,I hate being tied in to a 12 month's contract.

AOL Broadband only credit check new customers who are taking the free laptop offer.

Other customers (i.e., those who don't want a free laptop), are not credit checked.

Sorry i couldn't work out which bit was funnier, the fact that AOL could have CUSTOMERS or the fact that people think there laptops are actually GOOD.
