not sure if this is in the wrong section so if it is feel free to move it!!i have recently written to a few catalogues asking them to freeze my account and offered them monthly payments due to problems.one catalogue replied and said they could not do this unless thru a debt management plan as it would be illegal.but another catalogue has just called me to say yes thats fine,no problems.does that mean the first catalogue was fobbing me off or do they all have different rules??

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!

Complete cobblers.
if you are in a debt management plan with a debt charity, they will allocate your surplus to the creditors pro rata. But this is not a legal requirement.
What you are doing is effectively a self administered debt managment plan anyway, and you can do what you like as long as the creditors are happy and the debt is being paid over time.
When were these catalogues taken out?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
ive had the catalogues (littlewoods and additions which i think are same company)for about 3 years.they say has to be thru debt management but next catalogue have been great, really helpful0

Hi emandden,
It is not illegal to offer reduce payments. Just make the reduced payment to them anyway, either through standing order or payment book – don’t set any direct debits up with them.
It’s good that your other catalogue has accepted.
