What does What Car and Glasses say the car is worth, Parkers famously over price. Go into a dealer and ask for the parkers price for your car in Px and he will say OK if you pay the parkers price for the new (second hand) car!

Its a tough market at the moment the infation figures yesterday said used car prices were down by 4%. And there is no summer so the CC won't be a popular option! Every one wants small and economical.

Do you really need to sell?

Parkers a bit optimistic. Somewhere half way between "private good" and "trade in" price has been successful in the current climate for some people I know of, eventually selling for not much more than the trade in price.
There's a lot of going sensible with car buying habits going on plus if yours is a 2.0VVT which I guessing it is from the price / age and checking parkers for a late 56, the VED band is a bit on the high side with a £270 charge not too far off which many people get over sensitive about.
A £10K car means a loan for most people and loans have got a lot more expensive lately.

I am selling for pretty spot on Parkers guide price but would go lower.

Does the Ebay classified ads get good results? Anyone got any success stories?

Use the completed listings search feature to see how well cars similar to your own have done in the past.

For a guaranteed sale a dealer will normally take it off your hands, but they will probably offer a lot less than you would like.
I guess it depends how much you want to sell it and what you want to take.

  • I had my RX-8 advertised on Autotrader at £7995 for a month with no luck at all. Then I put it on ebay as a classified advert which I think lasted for about a month too with nothing but stupid questions and a couple of offers for 5000!!! - its on an (05) plate with 23k miles!!!!

Someone suggested ebay auction so we did that and put a reserve of £7250 and it made £6300!!! - finally someone at work had sold their TT through a site called dealerbid.co.uk so I went on there and sold it for £7300 to a dealer who collected it within a couple of days! - My point is that at £7995 it was a cheap car in comparison to dealer prices so why on earth couldnt I sell the car to the public for £7300 if a dealer is happy to pay that ? - He said they would put it up for £8995! - Think I must be missing something or people just prefer to buy from dealers. If id know before about that site id have gone that route because didnt cost me anything and no silly questions or messing around either.
