  • I rarely make small loaves, it’s usually the middle size loaf. I’ve made lots of different types with different types of flour, with/without fruit and/or nuts, but I couldn’t find a pattern regarding the noise.

What noises does yours make? Mind makes whirring noises but they aren’t very loud at all, it’s just the clanking noise which is loud. I guess I could make bread whilst I’m at work instead though.

I would describe mine as a clanking noise, to be honest I've just come to accept it as normal and it doesn't affect the quality of the loaf.

I wouldn't bother making a loaf during the night even if I had a quiet machine, some say it's nice to have it fresh for breakfast, but from my experience you can't cut really fresh bread easily and it makes a mess of the loaf.

For me, it works best to make a steady supply of loaves and freeze them, I've usually got 2 or 3 in the freezer so I've always got a fresh one when I need it.
  • Interesting, so maybe these machines do actually make a clanking noise anyway. I don’t really make them for breakfast as they take a couple of hours to cool down anyway. I guess I’ll leave the bread cooking during the day whilst I’m in work instead!

Just a thought - any chance you've got the model with the yeast dispenser built into the lid? That makes a loud clanking noise for just a short while when it releases the yeast into the bread pan.
  • I do have a yeast dispenser in my model actually. That would explain why it only makes the loud noise for a short time. Although I’m surprised that none of the reviews on the John Lewis website mention the noise. Still, I guess that’s what must be it!

It hasn't gone unnoticed by Amazon customers, there are a few comments on there about the loud clicking noise, though no actual complaints.
  • Ok well, at least I know the machine isn't faulty, which is great news :)

I wonder if anyone has a solution to our bread problem, we have a Panasonic SD 2511, (got it in 2016) been using Panasonic bread makers for years but I keep getting the odd flat loaf, they haven't risen but it looks more because the top of the bread has burst so letting the air out, I'm thinking it's rising too fast, I've tried all kinds of adjustments to flour and recipe even fresh yeast, quite often it's ok but never super high like it used to be. I only realised the other day when I recommended the same machine to my brother and he sent me a picture of their first loaf with my recipe, it was huge. I never thought there might be something wrong with the actual machine. then I found this thread on a capacitor making the motor weak - https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/panasonic-bread-maker.350833/page-6
Does anyone know if the SD 2511 is the same electronics?

I've got the latest 2522 Panasonic bread maker and tried a quick white loaf (medium size and colour) following the instructions.....except accidentally putting the yeast right in (heard it shouldn't be an issue if I'm not letting it sit?).

Anyways the sides of the loaf were perfect and dark but the top section of the loaf was pretty much white in colour and sort of under cooked.

Has anyone experienced this? Wonder what I did wrong, and in the future should I stick this I. The over for 5-10 mins or so?
