To be honest that is exactly what I am like.
I buy a bag of carrrots with all the good intentions of eating a bit more healthily and freezing some of them but I usually end up throwing the full bag away after just using one of them.0 -
Sounds really good but how does that affect vitamin content?Boo!:rotfl:0

That tip was originally posted by ronnyvee in the How do you store your fruit and vegetables thread, so I'll add this thread to that one to keep the replies together.

Ok Pink.
Thanks ronnyvee, my husband is well impressed as he has noticed how quickly the carrots tend to go off too.0 -
The veg draw in my fridge is constantly damp. I'm using up loads of kitchen roll trying to keep it dry, and put all my veg in trays & pots to try and help, but they are spoiling quicker than they should.
In fact my whole fridge is rather damp.
Please, has anyone got any ideas what I can do the sort this problem out!
I think it might be because my fridge is too cold, but it's on the lowest setting possible (fridge is only a year old).
My kitchen is an ice box at the best of times too and steams up really quickly when cooking (no extractor in this cruddy rented place and I can't do anything about it).
I need idea's on what to do - new kitchen and fridge not possible sadly!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Have to say, I don`t keep my veg in the fridge in cold weather and find a dark, cool cupboard a better place to keep them.
But if you do, maybe putting an absorbent tea towel in the bottom of the fridge, and checking to see if the little water drainage thing (urk, not good with the techy terms, me...:o ) is blocked which might increase condensation?
There are special green bags you can buy from places like Lakeland which really do help preserve the veg for a lot longer than without them, but if you`re like me and want to save every penny, try using ordinary brown or white paper bags and making sure they don`t sit in any damp, maybe by placing on small wire cooling racks in the fridge or on the slatted wire shelves if it has any.0 -
As Icewytch said it may be the drain thingy in your fridge, its a small hole somewhere at the back and bottom of your fridge, mine has a red handle sticking out of it. Any hoo they sometimes get blocked poke some thing in there, a cotton bud perhaps, it does get a bit gunky, if you do this periodically it should stop it.

I put some of my veg in between paper towels and that seems to help keep it fresh.
But it does sound like your fridge is not working as it should be. Is it a frost free model or do you have to manually defrost it?Felines are my favourite

It could be that the setting is too low try it a little higher and see if that works failing that freeze your veggies or as icewytch says try keeping your veggies in a dark cupboardBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
