Potatos stay good longer if kept somewhere cool and dark (mine are in the garage) - you can add an apple to the bag to keep them fresh too I believe.
Celery wrapped in foil stays fresh for weeks in the fridge and mushrooms I keep in the cool and dark too in a paper bag not plastic (just 'cause they're used to it!) but always go off too quickly for me!
Other fruit lives on my worktop and seems to last a good 10 days or more (except the melon from Tesco ) Veg I tend to chop and freeze so I don't have to use it all up.

When I have done my shopping all the vegetables are taken out of the packing and I put them all loose at the bottom of the fridge in the salad crisper, with the salad things, all out of the packing too. They stay fresh for me that way.
Grapes are put loose in a bowl in fridge, middle shelf
I used to leave things in the bags and of course they used to get sweaty and rot. Potatoes are kept in a cool dark cupboard.
You just learn things as you go along, we are all learning from each other on here, it's a great site.:j0 -
i used to think most stuff was better off in the fridge.....but just recently thought some things perhaps may not be even if you'd think so.
corgettes from the allotment were only lasting 2-3 days in the fridge before going soft and bendy but stored on my top in the kitchen are still perfect after 6 days.
so potatoes in potato bag, onions either in onion bag or baskets on kitchen trolley,lemons/limes in basket on kitchen trolley, carrots, baby pots, beans, brocolli etc in fridge...and now corgettes on trolley top in kitchen!
just thought it'd be interesting to see how we all stored stuff and why in some cases.......perhaps i'll learn something better/new!

My veggies are mainly stored in the fridge. The exceptions are onions, garlic and spuds, which I keep in the pantry. Pretty much everything keeps OK like this except carrots. It doesn't matter whether these are in the fridge, either in a paper or plastic bag or in the pantry, in or out a bag they wizzen up and go manky before a week is through.0

Potatoes stay in a cloth bag inside a dark cupboard.
Onions get chopped and frozen as soon as they're bought.
Garlic gets divided into individual cloves, peeled and then frozen - just take out one or two cloves to defrost when needed - chop, squidge, slice as necessary.
Carrots get put into the drawer at the bottom of the fridge. Sometimes I chop them up, blanch and freeze - stops them from going manky.
Cabbage/cauli/swede/leeks/parsnips also go into the fridge drawer.
Sometimes I get whoopsie veg and then it's always prepped and frozen.
Just wish I could find a way to keep mushrooms - why, oh why, do they go off so quick!0 -

i keep mushrooms in the punnet they some in but when i get them i remove the clingfilm outer wrapping, place a piece of kitchen roll onto them and 'tuck them in' - they last just over a wk usually!!"He that is of the opinion money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for money." I found that veg. kept best in a cool dark cupboard just in a vegetable rack, but our current house doesn't have a cool cupboard. Lately I've been wrapping all veg. in newspaper and keeping it in the veg. box in the fridge and that seems to keep it all fresh, and I only go shopping once per week.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

I freeze my mushrooms and they keep all right.
Try chopping them up and making small bagged portions.Absolutely desperate to buy my own house/flat. Living in rented bedrooms for the past 9 years is not fun.0
