If you manage to buy sprouts on the stalk then they can stay outdoors! Put an inch or so of water in a bucket and stand the stalk in it - if the cut stem is very dried up then cut a vertical cross up into it, and make sure no sprouts are below the waterline. Eat sprouts from the bottom of the stem up.
These will stay fresh and crunchy for weeks.
Tomatoes are one of the things that actually taste better if kept at room temperature - preferably an unheated but frost free room, but if that is impossible then remember to remove from the fridge at least an hour before eating.0 -
I keep most in the fridge, but find the garage is also good as it's definitely unheated! Only problem is we sometimes forget what's out there.Resolution:

We got a rather random but totally brilliant gift off OH Aunty for Christmas. Its a potato bag from Lakeland. I would definetly recommend this. Potatoes are lasting much longer now, but I have discovered a great Gnocci recipe somewhere in this forum so may use them all up quickly!0

Yup, keep ours in the fridge aswell.. they usually last twice as long as what you would expect.
Also in the conservatory floor this time of year as it's freezing in there.BSC Member 155

Mostly in the fridge, but we also have a large wooden bread box (too large to sit on a worktop, so it sits on the floor under the worktop!) and we keep onions and potatoes in there. I use one of those laundry net bags to keep the onions in so they have air circulating around them. I also take everything out the plastic bags and take off cling film tops in the fridge as I think they make veg sweat.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I find my fruit and veg go off quicker than I would like, I do make use of them though. But how can I make them stay fresher longer. At the moment all veg is stored in the fridge, except potatoes. All fruit in a fruit bowl except grapes which I keep in a fridge.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.Keeper of 2 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats & thankful that you can only have 1 husband at a time.0 -
