Elonex One notebook PC

  • There are a few sites that are trying to review the Elonex One - it is turning out to be a lightweight (in all meanings) machine intended for school student use rather than serious business use - but that's all it's being sold as - though I'm sure that someone will squeeze more use out of it eventually - try http://elonexone.blogspot.com or http://groups.google.com/group/elonexone as starting points or a few Google searches of Blogs or Groups or News...

    Part of the Furniture
I'll give it until the start of September. If I get one I'll tell you what I think.
  • I just received a eee 901 20gb Linux machine for £300. It's awesome. It looks good, it's very light, compact and quiet.

I wonder how long it will be for someone to push that 300mhz processor to the limits. Maybe get 500Mhz from it and Half Life running :)

There's a video on youtube showing an original 7" eee that was overclocked and was running World of Warcraft. With the 901, maybe it will be more playable now. It's tempting to find out..

Go on, b_a, don't be a cheapskate; spend the money and find out.

We have them at work, no money needs to exchange hands.

What a pile of techno-!!!!!!, waste of silicon and plastic.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Yeah, all laptops should cost £1000, be white and have a picture of an apple on the back!

Please. Its just an option at a price point. Apple's cover the hign end design of the market, offering good software. People like Dell cover for most users with a variaty of medium to high end laptops for watching DVDs, running powerful apps, maybe some gaming.
Asus's EEEPC covers the low end, with an ultraportable laptop thats hard to break. This is just one step further. Extremely light, designed to fit in your bag or whatever, without butning a hole in your pocket. I'd consider getting something like this for uni, as my current laptop is really heavy to bring to lectures with me. I could fit this in with my books and it would do the job well.

Just because you wouldn't use it, doesn't make it a waste of materials.

And yes, I know you don't use a mac, but you have that kind of attitude.

So you fell that my "honest" opinion is "attitude"? No, it is an opinion that what makes the device useful? Nothing, it is bespoke and little room for upgrade, as a toy for a child maybe but that would be the only use for it.
