If your PC has a VGA out socket then you can connect to the TV using a 15 pin (male) cable assuming that the TV supports PC input which being a modern set it probably does. The TV will display what is on the PC screen and you can toggle between the two when you discover the apptopriate key on your keyboard. To get sound you need to connect the PC to the TV with a 3.5mm din cable.
  • hi

i ve got a 15 pin connector (dont know if its VGA) being used which plugs into the pc monitor, so i plug this out and connect a VGA 15 pin male to male cable in this, and then the other end in my tv, then will this work

one more thing, could i get an adapter to allow both VGA inputs into 1 on my pc so that i dont have to keep unplugging it every time i want to connect to my tv

    thanks

you can have a switch over box that lets you switch between each monitor yes.......search in google or try www.aria.co.uk
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

Sorry, don't know the answers to these questions. You could certainly try the first option - can't see why it wouldnt work. As for an adapter, I'm sure it's possible. If youve got a Maplins store near you you could ask them - they are usually pretty knowledgable and they sell all sorts of cables and adapters.

When I mentioned the toggling I was thinking of connecting a laptop (which is all I've done) and laptops tend to have a VGA output.
  • so basically its a vga cable male to male one end in the pc and the other in my tv, but what about the sound, what cable do i need to plug in from pc to tv for the sound

    thanks

most modern pcs can actually connect to 2 outputs for sound, the cable you require is a 3.5mm stereo jack to 3.5mm stereo jack and of course the length you need.
expect to pay no more than £10 depending on length and where you get it, £5 would be average, depends on you

Can't view ebay here, but if its something like this then it should do the trick. Simply plug the 3.5" jack into the speaker port in the PC, and the TV should have a space for the two phono connectors.

I was trying to connect my Compaq laptop to my Panasonic TV using the S Video connector, but I think that's for camcorders to be connected to. But my TV's older, so only has 2x SCARTs and phono connectors rather than VGA ones.
