Hoping to find pony to share for SD

Anyone else remember the "you have to fall of a horse 7 times before you can call yourself a rider" chant that the instructors would bellow out at you? How many of us thought "Yeah after 7 falls I'd call myself a rubbish rider is what I'd call myself mumble mumble mumble" - As it happens I've come off horses a few more times than 7 (including falling half way down a mountain in the middle of winter with the horse on top... ) and STILL when I started riding again recently I've managed to come off uhmmm twice in about 2 months
Hohum... SO glad I have Bupa through work and a physio nearby
As for cost... At the moment loads of riding schools have pony clubs on as it's the holiday - I'd go and see them and see if there is a spare pony in the scheme at a reasonable price to see how she copes with a loanerDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I found my last share horse on this site http://www.newrider.com/cgi-bin/eclassifieds/classifieds.cgi?db=horse_loan&website=&language=&session_key=
I paid £15 for 2 days a week and did all the jobs required to look after the horse on my days.
My 2nd share horse i found via a lady i met on this horse forum http://www.saddle-up.org/forums/ after i posted that i was looking to ride. I would help her excercise her 2nd horse at weekends for free and then shared with a lady on the same yard after she sold her horse. That share cost me £15 for 2 days but i didn't have to do any work really with that one.
Some horse sale websites have loan/share sections and you could try local free ads and tackshops/riding school boards, perhaps pony club if you have a local one.0 -

Fab stuff, moomin5, I'm checking into these 2 sites as I type - have already registered and am placing wanted ads.

An update:
Not only have I been talking more with SD's dad (her riding experience is, in actuality, very much less than she has said....), I've been in touch with a local riding school and the conversations we've had impressed me very much about their standards, care, thoroughness, etc., for both their horses and their pupils. :-)
SO: We're going to go have a tour/visit of their facilities with a view to:
1. Sign SD up for "own a pony" day (she'll see what it's like to have to do ALL the chores!)
2. Get gift certificate for 3-session 1-on-1 Riding Assessment (BHS standard) for her for Xmas.
3. If 1 & 2 go well, will see about getting her Gramma & Mum on board to contribute towards weekly group lessons.
A HUGE thank you to all who've posted - your thoughts/ideas/tips have been brilliant :beer:Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

That sounds like an excellent and very sensible idea to me :T :T
All too often, young girls (and boys!) want a pony of their own without having the first clue of the sheer hardwork and commitment involved. I know, I was one of those young girls many years ago
I think what you're doing is an excellent way for her to not only progress with her riding skills, but also learn the ins and outs of horse husbandry and all it entails.
I wish you both good luck and hope she thoroughly enjoys herself :A“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
