On most policies a valid mot is not a condition of insurance.

The penalty depends on why the vehicle is brought to the attention of the police.

Insurance is not usually invalidated by the lack of MOT, as I found out the hard way a few years ago.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

My insurance states that the car must be in a roadworthy condition, not sure if that means a valid MOT or not

But if i was an insurance company and someone crashed with no mot, and the crash was something i could pin on the lack of mot i would

That's a bit harsh telling her mum, she must be a grown up to have her own car.
