Overlimit charge?

I've just noticed on my credit card statement that I've apparently gone over by £10 so they've charged me a £16 over limit charge?? Is there any chance of claiming this back like bank charges or are credit card companies (mines with Egg) different to banks? I always thought they'd decline your card if you were about to go over the limit....else there wouldn't be a point of having a credit card limit as such
TIA!
TIA!

They might see it as your responsibility to ensure that you keep within your limit especially if you are playing it that close.
If its the first time it has happened a phone call or secure message won't do any harm.0 -
Are you sure its £16 ?
I thought they had been limited to £12 for overlimit these days.
As jonesMUFCforever has suggested, speak to them nicely and explain that it was an oversight and a "first offence" and they may just refund it.
If you were on a promotional deal, they will probably have taken you off the deal aswell.0 -
Egg satisfied the OFT that they had "exceptional business factors" and because of these they are 'allowed' (ie without challenge from the OFT) to set a higher charge...Are you sure its £16 ?

(It's 36 pages so, unless you have all night, search for the word 'exceptional'. If you're really short of time, section 1.6 explains it in a nutshell).0 -
When I went over my Egg limit they refused to refund the charge... worth a try though, probably via phone call rather than secure message

I've found them very friendly but of course they are a business and out to make money so are within their rights not to refund it.
Annoying though, I know how you feel!0 -
You might end up with another overlimit fee on your next statement as well.0

Some card companies will operate a small 'shadow' limit to prevent you the embarrassment of being declined.Yup it's definitely £16. I had no idea such a charge existed as the last time I tried to buy something that took me over the limit my card got declined, so I never thought there'd be any problems. I'll give them a call in the morning, thanks for the replies

Tried, but they wouldn't remove the charge  just slightly ridiculous that the amount I went over by was less than this overlimit charge. *Sigh*0

What was their reason for not removing it? Have you had any charges removed before?0

I think OP and others have commented that Egg seem to be taking a firm line in refusing almost everybody who goes over their limit.0
