Dessert for Wedding picnic

Hi - have been invited to a neighbours wedding next week, they are having a wedding picnic and people are bringing the food, they have asked me to bring a bowl of dessert. What can I take??? I thought of Eton mess as it doesn't then matter if I brake suddenly on the way there, lol, or what about a tray of pretty butterfly cakes, i.e. something that is easy to eat??

Suggestions gratefully received!!

Sounds like a great idea. What a lovely idea for a wedding.. I would go for the individual cupcakes/ butterfly cakes. That way other people can just take one instead of having to dish up in a bowl and it starting to look like a mess and no cutlery required.

Thanks ... keep the suggestions coming! I thought of making little cakes with icing on the top then decorating with blackberries and icing sugar, i.e. something seasonal.

Also fruit kebabs ... but don't want to have to make anything too fiddly, I presume other people will be taking desserts too.

How about baking some wedding cake biscuits? I am sure you will be able to find a cutter to cut them out with and you could cover them with icing.
  • With the cakes and bicuits you could add a personal touch of putting the bride and groom's initials on them? and the date? depends how much room you have!

I like the sound of eton mess ( I only discovered what that was the other day and it's delicious), but leave out the icecream as it would melt!

But agree that cakes would be better due to the mess of it all and hungry wasps/bees etc.... (depends where the picnic is being held really)

Had forgotten all about wasps etc., quite how I dont' know, I've been plagued by them on a daily basis all summer holiday. Nasty little things that they are!

we make eaton mess at work but with whipped crean instead of ice cream. but the cookies or fairy cakes sound a good idea as said before, no cutlery etc involved in eating.
