  • i want to send a company nusance phone calls just to be petty any ideas
  • if intl. calls are routed over the BT network, surely they have a responsibility (if not ablity) to halt these calls, especially if OP is signed out on TPS?

Our main regular nuisance are calls from Taiwan. Never listened long enough to know what they want, but some financial product of sorts. Used to be a with-held number but last couple of times the number has shown up. Have sounded off in the past but didn't seem to change anything, so now we just leave phone off the hook until they hang up, with some success in the frequency received. We have 'won' a few pre-recorded holidays as well !!

Will come off the abbrievated electoral register next time it comes round.
  • im ex directory still get a few but if its an unwanted call and i tell them not to ring me they always ring again and see it as funny so now if i get a cold call i blow a loud whistle down the phone hardly get any now.well not repeaters any way

We have been plagued by these at home and we are TPS registered. really pleased to learn that's another unused piece of public pacifying legislation!!

Also want to warn about Safestyle UK - we had some work done by them, very pleased with it however they use the fact that you've had work done to ring you on the pretence of a satisfaction call and then proceed to ask if you want any new work doing? This went on for about three weeks, with four or five calls a week and I finally lost the plot with a sales guy going by the name of 'Danny' who was very rude and laughed cockily the whole time however I tried to call back but had withheld his number!

I phoned the main HO number to ask them to send 'Danny' out to our home under the pretence of wanting new work done, when what we wanted to do was grill him in our lounge and ask why he thought if necessary to be rude when we had initially asked him politely not to call again, and not surprisingly they said they couldn't trace him and we haven't had a call since.

We've also been bothered with Orange phoning from overseas on our landline, asking for someone who's name we can't distinguish, when we say they don't live here they then ask for our names and will not go away until we put the phone down.

Also to warn you about a scam on mobile calls, I have been rung by a number 0161 785 5690. They hang up when you answer so I phoned the number back from work and it's a company reckoning to be working on behalf of 3, they never answer the phone and instead you get an answering machine message and get charged a premium rate for your troubles thus lining their pockets!!!

I just wish to be left alone in the privacy of my own home and would love to hear suggestions on how to turn the tables on these companies.

just pretend that you have turrottes and swear and swear and swear etc down the phone
  • Try this: I keep an analogue radio on the desk. When caller ID shows an out of area call I put the radio on really loud and out of tune - put the phone right up close and the interference noise is truly outstanding - then I answer the phone.
Anyone on the receiving end instantly has their ears blown off. They will try a few more times - they're stupid like that - but after a couple of days they'll stop.

I tried ignoring these calls for months, and not picking up the phone, all hours of the day and night, including weekends.
This was the only thing I found to work. Plus you get the satisfaction of a little bit of justice of your own <cue evil laugh>

I don't even let them get into their spiel; I just tell them to £uck off..
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

  • We have started getting these calls in France... I once was told of a lady who would answer these calls very quietly and then blow a load whistle into the phone!
