Moving back to the "original" question, you can get an account that comes with a Visa Debit card, not Electron a full Visa Debit minus the Cheque ok function from Lloyds TSB which is designed for people with past, and they report account conduct to all three credit reference agencies so will improve your credit status over time. You can also try Yorkshire bank as they will give you a Meastro Debit with their readycash account. Good luck

are you sure here.

a Direct debit is set up with the supplier and not the bank as such... so if you want to pay (e.g.) BT by direct debit you fill in a form (or online) and BT contact your bank and set the DD up.

Which bank are you with OP? What account? As JPizzle says I'd be surprised if you couldn't set up a DD.

I'm not sure about that according to what Sky say on their website. Depends how you interpret the words I suppose.
6. Paying for Sky Broadband
(a) Unless otherwise agreed, you will be charged the monthly subscription for your chosen Product (“Sky Broadband Payment”) from the date your Line is first activated by BT to receive Sky Broadband (“Activation Date”). Addendum;
You can also get the HBOS Easycash account with an Electron card, no cheque book.
You will find life alot better with a debit card.

Thanks for all the reply's everyone, i will ask the bank again and see what they say and i will also look at the other banks mentioned.
