Debit cards

Hi All.

Looking for some advise about debit cards.

Long story short i got into debt a yr ago and now i can't get a debit card.

I thing is i need a debit card for things like paying BT, internet providers ect as many of them accept no other forms of payment.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered getting a pre-pay card or even if you have the willpower you could probably get a credit card (nuts I know but trust me they will give you one) from say Capital one or Aqua and then just pay the balance in full when you get the statement.

I know what you mean about the debit card tho i can't have one either but was able to get a credit card (with massive interest rate) without too much hassle.

    Hope this helps:T

There must be LOADS of ways you can pay someone like BT.
Not sure all these apply in this case, but off the top of my head:
    Debit Card
    Credit Card
    Direct Debit
    Telephone Banking
    Internet Banking
By cash or cheque at a bank with a payment slip
    Cheque by post
    Paypoint

I could probally get a credit card but thats how i got into debt in the first place, so a bit dubious about getting one, i also had a look at the pre pay cards but they can not be used for diredt debits.

Thats the problem, i can't get a diredt debit card and can't find any ISP's that except any other payment methods.

You mentioned BT to begin with.
I think you're confusing direct debits with debit cards here as well. Not the same thing and you don't need a card to set up a DD.

And Sky, according to their website, accept DD, credit or debit card, cheque or postal order. ;)

I have tried setting up a direct debit with my bank but they won't allow it (i only have a cash card account). Sky will let you pay for there TV by cheque but not there broadband, then i signed up to there 12mth contract i had a DD card so this wasn't a problem.

    Thanks

How does your bank not allow direct debits? According to moneyfacts, all the basic bank accounts allow direct debits and most also allow standing orders.

If you need a card, then you can get one with some of the basic ones, like Halifax and Clydesdale/Yorkshire.
