Main PC seems to have given up the ghost! Didn't want to fire up a couple of days ago. No beeps, sound of fans, hard drives spinning up etc. Just light in optical mouse lit up! Monitor just says no signal input! Have used a different power cable and checked fuse - both are ok. Connected up a different power supply which fired up the system to desktop but wont do this again? Fans on power supply and on mobo (AsRock K7VT6) processor spin up without pressing start button once connected to power? I've disconnected all drives, removed graphics card (Radeon 9200se), firewire and network cards and have also removed memory sticks. Still as above, no beeps but processor and psu fans spin up without pressing on button. No signs of burnt out components. Anything else I can check? Is mobo fried?

I'd suggest taking *everything* out...take the motherboard out of the case, stand it on something anti-static. Take everything off the board, then stick the CPU/HSF and memory back in. Attach a PSU you trust and then flick the power on - if you're still getting the same, it seems possible the thing's borked...never known the fans to be spinning up without proper power before...maybe this is a new feature I've not come across though...0

Doesn't sound good - but have you tried resetting the BIOS NVRAM? Sometimes it can get so corrupted that the PC won't POST.
Either remove the BIOS coin-cell battery or look for a jumper with something like "BIOS reset" by it.0 -
I'll look at both suggestions - I to can't understand why fans are spinning up!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

The fans could be on a separate power connector from the power supply.
There's some info on your mobo at the manufacturer's site here, which may help. The coin cell is at the back of the PCI slots, and the BIOS reset jumper should be near it (I've got an MSI mobo, and the coin cell and jumper are next to each other).0 -
I've reset cmos and replaced battery - no change! Mothballs, just seen your message, thanks! Have been looking at Asrock site and at the FAQ. Have also emailed them re problem - not very optimistic though!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

sounds exactly like what happened to my old computer after a storm blew the PSU.
try just the mobo, cpu, graphics card and memory. if you dont get a picture then, then the mobo has probably blown and may have taken the whole lot with it0 -

I'd have thought it was possible (if not likely) a short on the case could manifest itself like this...sounds like a long shot though tbh.0 -
