I have to disagree; one of the definitions of illiterate is "unable to read and write" - another is "having little or no formal education".
I just think that it was a harsh word to use, especially when you made a spelling mistake yourself. As far as I can see - everything else aside - the OP's posts indicate that, whatever else she may be (or being judged to be....), illiterate is something she is not.Blonde: Unemployed: Bankrupt.

Have to agree with this! I type very quickly-and usually very inaccurately. I keep being told how to have spell check on here but i'm not very techie and I instantly forget the device. I also miss lot's of letters due to a sticky kepyboard-3 children use this laptop as well as me. I have A level english (not a degree,I know) but that was back in the 70's and Lord knows how much of that is still in my failing grey matter! If I don't read back quickly and edit a lot of my posts they are dreadful.
ps this post was heavily edited lol!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -
Wow, that was an interesting read!
Thanks to everyone who's taken the trouble to highlight the [strike]bull$h1t[/strike] contradictions! :beer:0 -
Well, I don't know quite what to say to be honest. I have quite an eventful life so I hate it when people who have ordinary lives jump in and attack those who do a lot with their time simply because they don't. I don't like that a lot of people have automatically assumed that it's not possible for MissK to do as much as she does.
The inconsistencies that have been pointed out are more down to BF than BS to me. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think this is lies - I think it's cheating.
I'm all for making the most of a bad situation and I go out of my way to try to make sure we're getting the best deal we can. But that's within the constraints of the law - no "white lies" about it which seems to be what's going on here.
Suzi I don't see why this would put you off going back out to work to be honest? I take offense to the implication that being self-employed means you must be screwing the system! I earn my money within the system thanks, I'm only self-employed because it's the only job I can do that doesn't require childcare (and I'm not willing to even try childcare again while my son is under 5 because of a series of bad experiences).
Working is working whether you work for yourself or someone else. If you go self-employed you get a lot more in TCs initially but if your business takes off, these will go down accordingly until you can hopefully not need them at all down the line. The only time people wind up continually pocketing the high benefits year in, year out is when they fiddle their books - just be honest and there's not a problem is there?!0 -

I don't think Suzi meant it in that way, I think she was miffed off when the op said she was going to manipilate figures so she could claim more benefits. As I read it the op is saying she is working 40 hours with no income to get as much as she can get. What she does not realise is that tax credits may choose to investigate her 'business' and if the figures don't add up and she can't prove where the 40 hours go she will have a huge overpayment.0 -

I agree - the whole MSE ethos is about making the best of situations and stoozing could be counted as 'cheating' as it's taking advantage of loopholes. But the expression 'white lies' is often a euphemism for fraud or questionable practices and when used to receive benefits is, at the least, morally wrong and, at worst, illegal. There are enough bashers of those on benefits without people like missk giving them ammunition, as the rest of us tend to get tarred with the same brush. Besides which, the boards aren't about giving tips for defrauding the system, which is why she's had threads closed in the past.
If I understood her correctly, SuziQ was upset that the information missk had been giving her that was giving her ideas for a possible way forward later appeared to be based on sharp practices that were distateful to SuziQ, further exacerbated my missk's hypocrisy in various posts.
