I have £160,000 to deposit. I am looking for the best rate, to access only interest made
annually and that the original capital is always safe.

thats not investing. That is saving. See any of the other recent savings threads as they tend to mention the various interest rates on offer.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

dunstonh- heres a couple of recent posts form innovateWelcome to MSE! Did you check out the Savings and Investments section on this site yet? Do you mean "invest" or "save"?The question was about the 4.85% rate - and this is, as of right now, not visible on the page you mention. I think charlieboycat is correct, if you do have an existing account at that rate, you can see the 4.85% when logged in. But it looks as if people can now only apply for the "bonus savings account" (which has less than 4.85% AER, even if you have £100K in it - I think it's something like 4.78% AER)
Sad to say but he/ she is wasting your/ my time. not :cool:0 -
Many of the "i have x amount to invest" threads are a little pointless. Most mean save and not invest and not much changes in these threads but the same question gets asked again and again.
There used to be a netiquette requirement to lurk or at least search recent topics before making a post to avoid fustrating repeats or FAQs.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Almost as predicatable as the regular "I have £XX,000 to invest and want to pick your brains because I can't be bothered to read up for a few minutes" post, is dunstonh's reflex reply "that's saving, not investing"!
Most people (yes, not you, dunstonh!) see the two words as synonyms, and it doesn't matter as long as they know whether they want risk or not. The difference between the words is essentially jargonistic, of interest to those "in the trade", as it were. As a techie, I lose count of the times people misuse techie jargon in ways that seem annoyingly jarring to me - this must be the equivalent of what you feel - but I just ignore it.0
