Capital One - annon account!

I am hoping someone can shed some light on my stange situation, which has occured by its self!!! OR RATHER BY CAPITAL ONE!!!

I r4ecieved a large envolope about two weeks ago, which was addressed to me at my address, upon opening it I realised there is a problem!

It states 'now your a customer Miss Noodle the benifits are clear to see....Your credit limit £2500 - Your Card Premier - Customer since 5 july 2005'

mmmm.... heres the problem I am NOT a customer I dont have a card. The letter/package has no customer ref number on it...

So I phoned Capital One, and they were very unhelpful... I tried to explain I was concerned someone else MAY HAVE a fraudulent card with them (In my name probably screwing up my credit rating!) - I was told If its not my card ITS NONE of my business and they cant give me any information regarding this matter! I ask for written conformation That 'the card' addressed to me at MY address HAS been cancelled - they refused and said ITS obvoiusly not your card we cant do that.....

Help how can I KICK THEIR !!!!!!!!! if you know what I mean.... who can I report this to?

A very worried Naughty Noodle!

  • I would see if you can get hold of your credit report from Experian and see if it's registered on there first...

I would also write to Capital One explaining the situation and demanding an explanation and assurance that the account has been closed. They will have set timeframes that they must respond to you in.

    Good luck!

Write to them recorded delivery and keep a copy of the letter. Also report this to the police. Its nothing to be concerned about but you want to protect yourself in case any debts show up against this account later.

I would write to them, explaining what has happened, and that you want to get the matter concluded to your satisfaction.

Address it to someone senior like Customer Relations Manager, and enclose a copy of their letter.
This will be more effective as anyone can ring up and pretend to be you, hence the guarded response. Call centre operatives tend to follow the hymn sheet verbatim and cannot take decisions easily, tending to quote data protection rather than talk to their supervisor.

Whoops got diverted at 9pm and have just returned to finish my reply, when submittred found there had been similar posts by Ajuk and Xbigman

  • I would also reccomend writing to Capital One, send this recorded delivery and make sure you keep copies of all correspondence. However don't expect any reply or for any of there customer service people to be any help, also note the department the deals with all their complaints (And I guess they must get a lot) are not cotactable by telephone - only in writing. After waiting a week I or so I would then contact the Financial Ombudsman - it is only after they contact Capital One on your behalf that they will acknowledge your complaint.

I have had numerous dealing with Capital One (See thread on Debt free wanna be - Mistaken Identity)

OP if you need any further advise feel free to PM me with any questions.

    "Complaints
Details of our complaints procedure can be obtained by writing to the following address: The Manager, Executive Office, Capital One Bank (Europe) plc, PO Box 5281, Nottingham NG2 3HX"

OP may find that the Financial Ombudsman will not want to get involved until Capital One have agreed, and stated in writing, that a deadlock situation exists.
