Thanks a lot every one...My point was not to mention CIW or other qualifications...lol..i just wanted to ask if i can post link to a website that has some special offer if you come through froums.moneysavingexpert.com ... However its good to see so many responses and well the link to a deleted advertisement made me laugh really as I never wanted that to happen to my little posts.

    Thanks all

that says it all.. a link to a personal website, with a special offer, for people on these forums, to your business website..

that is blatant advertising, and if you did it, I'd want to do it.. then every other web developer on these forums would want to do it...

this is advertising free, and should stay that way... regardless of if it is a personal website or not...

Don't lay into him/her so hard. They asked and got a response, they didn't just post the advert right out like others do :/

    Actually they did. :(

This thread was started AFTER they'd already posted an advert on the forum (since deleted).

Oh, my mistake then. I'll go sit in the corner until someone actually wants some tech help :p

Disgraceful. Not being able to read deleted posts. Next you'll tell me you aren't psychic either. ;):D

    Hi,
I have just started some freelance work with couple of other professional CIW certified web developers. Our office is in Manchester and we have advertised locally but I was thinking if I am allowed to post about my website on MSE forum and let people know of any special offers?

Can any one clarify what is the best way to tell MSE users about my website and not being punished for it?

    Many Thanks

Well your fancy CIW qualification [which is useless and meaningless - but that's another thread] obviously doesn't give you the ability to a) read a different web site's rules and b) the ability to proofread your own posts [the title].

I dread to think what a site produced by you would be like :rotfl:

[Everyone else has already given all the good advice in earlier posts, so nothing useful to add]

i'm glad it is just me that thinks that a CIW qualification is useless and meaningless... it is your portfolio that sells websites....

Yes, a portfolio is the most important part, if a business is looking to get someone to make them a website, they find two people with equally good portfolios, wouldn't they be more likely to go for someone with a qualification? Especially if its only people in the industry who believe that it is useless, as most people looking for a website won't know which are the best qualifications. A CIW would look better than no qualification at all?

A CIW might look better than nothing to someone who hasn't got a clue but then so will any other random 'certification' - there's loads out there. I expect this type of person would be more impressed by soemthing like the Adobe Certified stuff http://www.adobe.com/support/certification/ (as to some people web design=Dreamweaver)

For people who know what they want - they'll be able to ask the right questions to ask, for others they'll be more influenced by what your portfolio looks like - irregardless of its actual technical underpinnings
