Second Degree Funding

Does anyone know where I stand in getting funding for a second degree where;

1) the 1st degree is an OU degree (without honours)
or
2) the 1st degree is an OU honours degree
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

    I don't know CIS, but I didn't think you could get funding for either OU degrees or second degrees. I believe the funding for second degrees was removed last year. It would probably be best to contact the Students' Union or Student Admin. at the OU.

    I'm hoping to go to a local Uni F/T for a second degree if possible rather than through the OU so it would come under the normal funding criteria rather than the OU's.

    Do you mean a second undergraduate degree or a postgraduate degree?

    It would be undergraduate - at the moment I have the OU points for a ordinary degree and if I keep going for a yr or so for an honours degree,

    I want to go to Uni F/T so I'm considering whether to take the OU degree or not before then . If I take the OU degree and then go to the local uni it would then be a second degree so I need to know if it would stop any funding I could apply for .

    hmm.... you did well to get the money. i understood that they would only fund a first undergrad degree....... or a maximum of 4 years as an undergrad.

    did you have to jump through any hoops or anything like that? if there are ways around this rule, it would be good for everyone to know more about them!

    CIS - you don't have to apply to do the full degree F/T at uni. You could apply to complete the honours part of it and cash in the credits from your OU degree. In that case, you could get funding for that (final) year on the same basis as a student completing an F/T honours degree course at uni. I hope that makes sense - I know what I'm trying to say, but don't think I've expressed it very well.

  • * Most of our financial support is for people who do not already hold a qualification at degree level, but if you are studying for a second degree because you need to retrain in your career, you may still be eligible for a financial award to help you achieve this. See Support for retraining for more information.
    Link from the OU website (its there for all to see) - nothing shady...
    Now I'm going to bow out of this one - I followed the same rules as everyone else. Good Luck CIS
