    Hi everyone. :hello:

I have a question about these Tumble Dryer Condenser boxes.
Will these boxes work with a portable Air Conditioning unit ?
I would have thought that it wouldn`t be any different to a Tumble Dryer.

    Anyone answer ?
    Thanks

No, not at all. They will hardly reduce the temperature of the air exiting, and defeat the whole purpose of the air-con. This arrangement will actually increase the temperature of the room. An air-con hose needs to vent outside.

I baught one of those boxes a few years ago and i thaught they were total rubbish. They come with two removable inner boxes you have to fill with water and freeze,(such a pain) so that when the hot heat hits the cold ice it turns to water.I still had to open doors and windows when i was using the box otherwise my doors and walls were soaked, not just damp feeling but drenched, just like they would be if i was taking a hot bath with no window open.Wasnt very impressed at all but others might have had a better experience than i did.

    1/10 from me

Likewise, totally agree. Bought one too a few years back and had exactly same issues as Squiggles, complete c*ap. Have our tumble drier mounted on top of washer so ended up just using pipe from the box to poke out of small window!!

Prefer to open the window and shove the tube out, but if the weather's cold that isn't always practical.

I got one off ebay for around £8, hose was standard fitting, and since the freezer is next to the drier it's easy enough to keep a couple of ice packs in there (it doesn't specify that they're needed but it condenses the steam more efficiently) I needed a new hose anyway so wasn't out of pocket.

I use one at the moment and as long as you remember to change the water every time you use it and open a window then its absolutley fine!

  • The airflow rate out of a tumble dryer is fairly high so a small box with water or ice in it cannot hope to remove much moisture from the air. I think they are a waste of money.
Proper condensing tumble dryers usually recirculate the air in the machine, condensing moisture from the air as it circulates. Air is not vented to the room so doesn't cause problems with damp.
The best solution is to get a hole put in the wall, next best is to hang the hose out of the window (with a extra length of hose if needed).
A condenser box is only marginally better than just leaving the hose in the middle of the floor and will lead to problems with damp and condensation in the room.
  • I got the one from Dustbag - it is brilliant!!
Have it going in my bathroom and just steams up the windows a bit but is well worth it

Well worth the money as Ive read condensor dryers themselves are not worth the money (most are about £200)

I do wish people wouldn't put comments like this, either criticising or praising something based on a third hand non-attributable comment.

I've had two vented tumble driers and have had a (Bosch) condensor for the past 12 months. All 3 have been excellent; if you intend to get a condensor for £200 - you will get what you pay for - c**p !
  • The ice box condenser seems like a lot of trouble particularly as I have a small overloaded freezer.

I purchased the cheaper option and although it is priced at roughly about £12 Its only £5 on ebay but by the time you,ve paid the £4 postage there,s only a few quid in it,personally Im not impressed it catches the dust but all the heat comes out at the top of the slats and steams up the window and soaks the wallpaper if I carried on my wallpaper would be falling off.

opening a window is a must, but a nuisance particularly at night if the lights on,moths and flies.

Its a nice ide if only to stop the fluff dirtying the walls ceiling, curtains/blinds.;)
