What would happen if I broke my contract?
Hi
I am really skint, if there was a way I could ditch my contract (up Aug. 2009) with the Carphone Warehouse I would, & switch to payg for a while. If I cancelled the direct debit (£35pm) what could they do? Would they take me to court?
Thanks

You can cancel your direct debit, but they will continue to bill you (charging extra as they could no longer get paid via direct debit).
They would then enforce the debt (including taking court action), black mark your credit record etc.
Much better to contact them now, explain the position and try to come to a payment arrangement with them, rather than let it get out of hand.0 -
Are you on an 18m? If a 12 month you should be able to get out of it on the cooling off period but I suspect you're not.
As said above you will not only carry on being billed, but when they disconnect the handset they will also give you a disconnection charge. The debt would be passed on to whoever their debt enforcement agency is and you will get that lovely strike on your credit file.
You could see how long CPW ask you to be on your contract for before you can downgrade, on o2 it's 9 months but it might be different for you. Also if you explain you're in financial difficulties they might be able to come to some arrangement.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
