Why?Hmmm... that's a bit inconsiderate of you.
Personally I bung it Neutral and lob the handbrake on, it's less effort than having to keep my foot on the brake all the time (I'm lazy too).
What is the point in wearing out the gear lever thingy moving it up to N and then to D when there is really no point apart from saving some poor Scotmans eyesight?
Its my car and I will drive it how I like. There are more inconsiderate drivers on the road than me. Take Goldspanners for instance.Genie

I am just fed up with the likes of you and others accusing auto drivers as being lazy. It takes far more skill to drive an automatic, plus it also frees up your left hand to do other things.

I used to have a focus - auto. And I've just traded that in for an old Lexus LS400, it is a bit juicy but very comfy, and it is auto too.
Have a problem with that? They mainly drive auto's in the States but no one goes on about that.Genie
