Increasing Sound Through Speakers

Cheers Matty I'll have a look at PC World, after both my hols and my next payday.

Hang on a minute! If you're using a set of speakers (without a power supply), connected directly to the output of the soundcard, then unless the soundcard has a built in amplifier big enough to drive a set of speakers (which 99.9%don't), rather than headphones, the sound is always going to be pretty quiet! Even if you change it for a mutts nuts creative audigy soundcard, the volume is still going to be quite.
Invest in a cheap pair of amplified speakers, and connect them to the line out connector on the soundcard. The volume should then be okay.
If it is loud, but distorted, turn the volume down in the volume settings of the PC, and turn the actual speaker volume control up.
Even the cheapo soundcards these days should be able to produce un-distorted sound okay. You just need to get the amplification correct.

That's the best advice - it certainly sounds like the soundcard on the new computer doesn't have a built in amp so get some powered speakers.0

Just picked up some Altec Lansing speakers from PC World for £30. Much better. I've got them plugged into the speaker output. Did someone say they'd be better in line out? If so which is line out?
Thanks to all.0 -
Leave them where they are.
