Increasing Sound Through Speakers

Can anyone advise please. I've got new pc, but I'm still using the old speakers. The sound doesn't seem as loud through the new pc. I've turned the speakers up and turned the volume on the PC up. Its not very loud. I'm just playing music, not games through 2 bog standard speakers. Would new speakers help or do I need a better sound card?
Thanks
Thanks

Are the speakers powered ? usually from a ad adapter, but sometimes battery or even sometimes for a power source on pc/monitor

No, they're just connected to the pc but don't have a seperate power source.

Just a thought, assuming you are using XP. Have you opened up the master volume control, right click speaker icon, and checked all the settings. Its just that I couldn't hear CDs properly on my PC and found the CD volume needed upping a bit. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Thanks, yes theyre all up to the top. I'll check out some new speakers.0

verify you have connected to the correct output port - may sound stupid, but just check0

Yeah!
Could be that you've put it into the 'Headphones' Socket, when there's actually a 'Line Out' Socket!0 -
Yeah check your connections..........0

Thanks I am getting sound through. I'd just like it a bit louder so I can bang along on my drums and still hear the music. No you wouldn't want to live next door.
Checked out some new speakers yesterday and they weren't that expensive. Doesn't it also depend on my sound card as to the sound that comes out? I mean no point be buying some loud speakers if the end product's limited by the sound card. Or am I wrong as usual?
Thanks0 -
Bigger speakers will probably be much more powerful.
However, with a poor quality soundcard, your quality will be limited when it's turned up high! The sound will become distorted! I think a new Sound Card would be good if you really want loud sound!
How about the Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum? They cost a fair bit though, round about £100 (PC World). They come with another piece of hardware too, allows guitars and other instruments to be connected directly to the system! If not, try the Soundblaster Live 24 Bit!0
