I know what its like as when the kids were younger we were always in debt. When I got together with my OH in 2000 and sold the family home, I paid off the debts and started afresh. Now we have savings, will be paying the mortgage off in about 7 years time and are careful with our money. It makes for a much more stress free lifestyle.

Cheers vivw. He always has to do the money his way. But his way doesn't and will never work. Proof is the last 3 years we've been married. It just gets bloody worse.

Well I've told him now I;m not having anything to do with it. I'll sort my bills etc out and he can do the rest.;)

Most of the washing is dry, folded and put away so I've put the throws in to wash. Sounds like the weekend is back to rain so making the most of it.

I always sort the money out and I know DH thinks I'm tight, but the mortgage is paid off and we've got no debt and a little bit saved. The way things are going I'm glad I'm tight.

I had a very pleasant hour and a half on the allotment - should have been two hours, but spent too long talking to one of the other regulars instaead of weeding...

I prepared an area and sowed all the oriental vegetables, then weeded half of the rest of that bed (30ft long by 5ft wide - quite an area!). Harvested: cabbage, courgettes, runner beans, salad leaves, carrots and potatoes, as well as the last six sweet pea flowers. So, that's sorted dinner, it'll be salmon and rice and salad. We'll have some thing with potatoes, carrots and beans tomorrow - I quite fancy quiche, but only two of us like it. I may make it anyway!

I have done one lot of children's bedlinen, and the other is in washing now. I don't intend to do anything else in their rooms!

The money thing we've always done together. We're quite lucky, as we have similar attitudes to money, although I'm by far the bigger spender, and not so good at saving - I don't have a credit card, through choice, and haven't for about 20 years.Neither of us have any debts, apart from the mortgage. There are about five years left on that, and it was a tiny one anyway, as we did a selfbuild. The worst mistake we made was choosing an endowment mortgage.

If we weren't so careful with budgeting, there's no way I could have stayed at home to bring up the children! I did work part time for the last 8 years, but that was always for the extras, like holidays and presents.

That's the crux of it with us really. He wants me to work full time but I won't. Mainly because -
    1. I have 2 part time jobs already plus I do a bit of MSing as well.
    2. The more I earn the more he chucks away. He's proven that since Feb this year.
    3. I don't want to be dragging DD around to a CM in the morning 5 days a week. Doing it 3 days is bad enough. Especially in the winter months.
    4. I don't want to be picking her up from a CM's at 6.00pm then having to start tea etc.
    5. I could never manage full time plus everything else i.e housework. As it's only me that does it.

I applaud any mum that can do all that. But I know that I couldn't. He says I'm selfish and not contributing in any way shape of form. I say TUF! :p

    Aww TAG, thats a bummer..
I've been seriously thinking about getting a job, but our life is set up for me to not work, so I'm not sure I'd manage it.
And actually...I don't want to work..I'd quite like to get paid, though...

I'm the money manager in our house too. DH not very good with money, but then I've kinda allowed us to get into this position too!
Oh well, at least I can make overpayments on the loans, so I'll just have to crack on with it!!
