Yes, have previously tried riverford for some meat and veg, found the veg to be good but meat is on the small side, since hubby is more of a meat eater, it didnt last us very long..though I did come across some online which cost less than they charged. I don't always buy organic, so didn't mind either. Just think some of the package meat sold from supermarket lacks flavour and thought rather eat less meat but better quality?!
Will have a read thru the veg box thread and give it a go say 2 weeks and see how that works out?
Would really appreciate recipes for meat free or less meat, is there a thread for that?!
Thanks e everyone!!Pinklover xx0 -
We tried a local veg box scheme here on the Isle of Wight, a couple of years back - wanted to support local business and all that, plus A&C and Riverford don't deliver here. Sadly, after the first couple of boxes, the quality went downhill. When we complained, at first, it was "Oh, we'll give you extra 'x' next time", but it rarely materialised, and we got fed up with yellow greens and woody parsnips. Was never economically worthwhile.0

Hi
Have a browse of these earlier threads. (I'll add your query to the first one later).

Value for money or not? Veg box buyers opinions needed
It really would be worth your while contacting a local supplier through somewhere like www.bigbarn.co.uk This site shows all sorts of organic suppliers close to your own post code.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I have Abell and COle groeries each week and for two of us I spend between £30 and £60 per week. We don;t eat meat, and I have my own chickens for eggs but other than that the majority of my groceries come from A&C. This includes milk, cheese, pies, flour, bin bags etc. I have the smalle fruit and veg box which is £12 and top up with anything else I need.
It does save me going to the shops and it does save impulse buys so from that POV it is cheaper. If I didn't buy organic and ate freezer food then I probably would be far better off going to Farmfoods or Aldi.0 -
As I'll be going travelling in 10 days' time for 1 month, no doubt my husband will be happy living off his cereals and yoghurts..I'll decide when I return mid Feb. I agreed since we don't eat ready meals or frozen meals, it is harder to shop at budget shops..having said that though, found some great buys from B&M for dorset cereals for only £1.60! And they're yummy! So will go there and stock up occasionally. So now, just a matter between shops or boxes!!Pinklover xx0

Thanks so much kittenkirst! I had a look just now and the look fab! Am thinking to try them for the £91 box to see how long it'll last us. From many sites I've checked, they seem value for money. Thanks for recommending!Pinklover xx0
