you need to reboot with original disc. the vista disc wont work.
you need the xp disc
if you dont have it take it to pc world they fix for a fee0 -
Don't take it to PC World. What a useless comment. Apart from anything else, this is a moneysaving website. tom555tom should be banned.
yummymummyoftwo, is there a Certificate of Authentication sticker somewhere on the PC?
If so, to which version of Operating System does it refer? Home, Media Centre or Pro?
Was the PC supplied with an XP Disc?
Have you attempted to contact iQon? http://www.iqon.ie/index.jsp
There are various options for retrieving your files and re-installing Windows if necessary, though I would try the manufacturer first to prevent driver issues. Hopefully they can supply you with a bootable disc.0 -

Whatever you do, don't throw away!
At the very very worst, you can borrow an xp disc and do a complete re-install with the product code that should be on the sticker on the PC's case somewhere.
Less severe options are - boot into an XP cd of the same version you have installed, and run chkdsk /r from the recovery console. Instructions here:
http://pirules3.14.googlepages.com/recovery_console_chkdsk
This usually sorts out errors like this. You need to know how to boot into a CD instead of windows though.
Ultimately, the first step is borrowing an XP CD of the same version as you have installed (i.e. home, pro, or media centre.)Russia is HERE0 -
update
still no joy contacting iqon through email about the discs:mad:
i was hoping to fix it so my brother can have it,as my lovely oh has bought me a laptop!
lesson learned as soon as we turned it on we did a rescue disc, were now on vista and its so much better
hooray i have missed my computer soooooo much!0 -
Most systems now allow you to burn recovery disc(s) so I suggest you do that just incase your laptop has a failure in the future.Always looking for a bargain and to help0

Is there a Certificate of Authentication sticker somewhere on the PC?

Is there important information that you'd like to retrieve?
Have you a short attention span?

I don't think so.
I think she's just happy with her new laptop, so her attention has been drawn from the PC.0
