Come a time ? Where were you in the 80's and 90's when many cards used to have small annual fees attached to them ! Rest assured those times WILL be back, of that I've very little doubt.0

doubt it, too many people don't pay them off every month, so they get all the money they need. Just putting on a charge may put people off getting them, then they lose the interest people pay out on.0

The credit card industry revoked the old skool "annual fee" for most cards it just seems to be the rich people's CC's that get a high APR and annual fee wacked on them, maybe cos they will not notice but your question is most certainly valid and I think the answer is yes, because of so much "unlawful" bank and credit card charge re-claiming from rouge consumers e.g. people who have poorly managed their finances and then blame somebody else for their wrong doing etc, the banks will hit back to reclaim those losses some how if not in high APR which is not good business practice as it will drive customers away but with your suggestion of a fee for owning a Visa card, banks are already charging for the use of some of their accounts and it will not be too long before they charge across the board.Do you think there will come a time when we will have to pay to have a credit card?

I doubt there'll be an end to free credit (ie fee-less) - it's easy money for the lenders and would discourage the masses from holding a credit card - the only customers they'd keep would be the ones that had no choice.You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0

The reason that these "premier" type cards have a high APR is because the APR takes into account the annual fee.
Bear in mind though that annual fee does pay for quite a few extras such as travel insurance, theft and damage cover, access to VIP airport lounges, concierge service etc0 -

I had a VISA attached to my current account a few years ago that was 'fee free' initially, when an annual fee was applied I sent it back.Do you think there will come a time when we will have to pay to have a credit card?Panda xx
