Well if someone wants to pay £3500 for a dog then thats up to them if they are willing to pay for it, but my guess is that the breeders will have to lower their prices when they get no interest.

    Hi
    Not a puppy farm
It was a French Bull dog
she either wants a French Bulldog or a Boston Terrier or a Black pug

Snap, this was the breeds we were looking at , now decided on the boston, as more suitable for our family, But will get myself a frenchie once the pup has settled and a bit older. Although DS2 has stated it will be a pug instead of the frenchie, as he thinks pugs are cute.
I like these dogs as there are not a lot around so a bit different.

bulldogs arre partly more expensive as they tend to need c-sections to give birth. re the pug they r great with kids if you need that quality we are picking up ours when he is 5months at the end of oct and can't wait!

c-sections dont cost that much to be able to hoist the cost that much.

1 pup at £1000 would recoup the cost.

ALL breeders need to reduce their puppy prices, its now getting ott.

I think the reason for the c-section type dogs being so expensive is not the op itself but that the dog usually only has a small amount of pups.

large breed say 7 pups, could go up to about 9 in a lot of cases@ £500.00 per pup total £3500 , no extra outlay

    pug 3 pups @ £1300 toatl £3900 minus the c-section about £500.00 so total profit £3400.

I think this is why they are so expensive.

I like the idea of keeping pets expensive, look at the amount of pedigrees in dog homes loads of them, years ago this was not the case, infact when i was a child it was very unusual to see a pedigree. By keeping the price high in comparison to earnings , it does 2 things , keeps the owners select and limits the breeding of the dogs as there is not a big market.

Nowadays 300- 500.00 is nothing to pay for a dog , even it seems to those on income support and to people on WTC.

your way of thinking about breeding is way off , what about all the work and cost of health testing both male and female , taking them to shows costings for all the reg with KC for raising them plus the litter not every breeder is out to make money and if you are thinking its a money making scheme its not.

    Sure it wasn't a typo?

I could understand that much if it was say a dog that has won a lot of shows and so worth a lot for breeding, but for a pup it does seem an awful lot. I guess when average people are willing to spend £500-1000 on a pup that they aren't intending to show, maybe it does push up the prices or the better quality dogs or maybe someone is just trying their luck that some rich mug will come along.

good god, cant believe someone can ask that for a dog. What breed was it? It would want to poop gold for that price!

Couldn't help but laugh at this! Seriously though that amount is absolutely ridiculous, how can anybody justify charging that?

The expensese is the same no matter what breed you go for,

The q's asked was " why are the pups so expensive" I gave an answer to that in that the difference in pup price is because of litter size. No matter what breed you have, show fees, health testing etc are still the same, I stated the obvious difference.

As for "if you are thinking it is a money making scheme" I don't know exactly where you get that idea that i am implying this. If you read all my post you would note that i want the price to be high so it limits the litters born, I wish people would stop jumping to conclusion.

I know many people feel that keeping pups expensive means they are likey to go to better homes, but I have just returned from visiting a local rescue, for a charity dog show (the Badger won third place in 'best in show!').

Whilst I was there I had a quick look at the dogs they had got in - they have a beautiful pedigree husky puppy, and an adult chihuahua, so I am not convinced this is always the case!
