Would like to share my story.
my husband and I let our dogs off the lead and as soon as we see other people with or without dogs we put their leads on until we are past. We then let them off again until above happens again.
My story really is that every morning I walk past a fenced garden and the dog on the other side barks etc until we pass. Now I appreciate that the dog is protecting its property and I fully understand this as one of my dogs bark when people walk past. Anyway, one morning we did our usual morning walk and we were about 15 metres past the house when the owner suddenly appeared on the field with her dog. Of course I was shocked to say the least but she had a gate coming from her back garden which I was completely unaware of otherwise I would have kept the leads on my dogs. Anyway one of my dogs ran straight to her but ran straight past, turned and came back to me and I put them both on their leash.
I walked over to her and straight away apologised to her and tried to explain that I hadn't realised she had a gate due to it being open land. She just started shouting at me saying that the dogs should be on a leash blah blah blah. Of course I know she would be very upset but so was I and her dog had been agressive for the last 6 weeks everytime we passed. Needless to say I now walk in the other direction and I'm not saying I am right but surely she could have looked out of the gate first as she had been aware of m e walking past each day.
As for poo it's disgusting and a horrrible job but it has to be picked up!
P.S. I also agree that you never have 100% control which means I am probably contradicting what I have just said but the mere whiff or mention of cats and my two are off.

aim sorry this has happened smicken, truly I am :(

I would walk away now and go find your companion is one of the many rescue centres. These people don't sound at all reliable, not just today's episode but the fact they have never even taken the time to get the dog inoculated (has it ever been allowed out and socialised even) I can see this turning into a nightmare for you

I have an EBT. People are wary of her, because of the rep the dog has. She is non aggressive, to either dogs or people. Cat's dont bother her. Birds, she will chase until the cows come home LOL.
    Her recall is good.
However, when you own a breed that people are wary of, you have to be extra specially careful not to put a foot wrong.
This doesn't stop other owners letting their dogs wander up to her though....then they scowl at me when their dogs get aggressive, and more often than not comment that the dog should be muzzled, or bl*dy dangerous dog, or the like.
She has NEVER once growled at another dog, even when they've been in her face.
Thing is though, if one of these out of control dogs were to start a fight, she probably would finish it. That's terriers for you. Terriers of all types. Then, who would get the blame? Her, of course.
Nowadays I'm more likely to tell the owner of said wandering pooch to get it on a lead and out of my dogs face. It's just not worth the risk.
She does go off lead occasionally, but only when there is nobody else around. If we go to a place that's generally busy with dog walkers, we use a long line, so she can still wander and have a bit of freedom, but can be reigned in if necessary.
It's not her I don't trust. It's the other dogs.
And, she does have a tendency to jump up *blushes*. Try as I might, and however well we have her trained, this one I haven't managed to crack yet, though she is better than she was.
Most people do not appreciate a bully running towards them, tongue lolling out then diving at them. I can understand that.
I always leash her near kids too (short leash). She adores kids, but again, it's the jumping up thing. She does it to my kids, and they will tell her no and push her off which will stop her, but I won't have her doing it to a strangers kids, for sure.
We are training her out of this, by taking her and sitting near the school at home time, and making her sit whilst all of the kids walk past. She is not allowed to move towards them in any way. If she does well, she gets a treat!
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Good luck with that - I've been working on it for 8 years and still haven't cracked it.

    Hi,

I strongly advice to not to plan to accompany your dog with any terrier, as terriers are basically very aggressive and they are very possessive too, so if you pay some more attention to another dog, terrier may harm you as well as your dog too. Indeed terriers are very good dogs but they should not be accompanied with any other or even the same breed.

But it is your house and your dogs, it is just an advice.

    Thanks

Bloody nonsense - many terriers make great companion dogs, as long as you treat them properly and give them rules.

I put a little tiny bit of Stuff 'N Puppy Paste in the bottom, comes in a can as is great stuff as it makes little biscuits and treats stick to them.
I put that in first followed by a few little dog biscuits and then a big biscuit at the front to jam it. The good thing about the pasta is you don't have to use many biscuits in the kong as the dog will spend ages trying to lick all the pasta out of the bottom

We used to use the mini chop treats, but they're a bit much for him now he's getting a bit older so we use pretty much any dry biscuits, preferably ones in funny shapes that you can wedge in so it takes him longer to get them out!

I spread cream cheese or peanut butter around the inside first, then stuff in cheese, ham or whatever I have in the fridge really in to the inside. Then I wedge in a big biscuit as hard as I can to trap the stuff inside.

Sometimes used mashed banana as well, and then stuff with doggy choccy drops and plain dog biscuits for a sweet version!

Unfortunately our dog is an expert at getting the stuff out and it doesn't last him long!

If we think far enough in advance we put the kong in the freezer with the stuffing inside, it lasts longer.

Also if you put a bit of cheese inside, then microwave for a couple of seconds till the cheese is melted round the inside, then leave in the freezer to go hard, it keeps them interested until they can get all the melted cheese on the inside.
